Aooooooogah.... Aooooooogah....

Okay - that's my pathetic version of an air-raid siren. What's coming?

Well, first, my mom. She's flying into Atlanta Saturday morning. Gert and I are going to get up at the butt-crack of Dawn (sorry sweetie - I couldn't resist) and head down there to get her. Which MEANS the next 48 hours will be spent CLEANING EVERYTHING... twice. Scrubbing small crevices with tooth brushes. Dusting window blinds and the BACKS of bookcases. The INSIDE of the garbage disposal. Think I'm joking? Right now the drain stopper thingy (what IS That thing called) from the guest bathroom is soaking in bleach so that when she pulls it up to inspect it, it's pristine. The kicker of all this is that if you went to her house, and you went in her basement, you'd want the hot line number to one of those shows where they go in and you can't even see the floor for all the CRAP and then they organize everything. Seriously, if she wouldn't be SOOOO offended, I would totally sign her up.

I LOVE my mom. As you all know she raised me all by her lonesome, and we had a great time, just the two of us. She has, however, lived by herself now for 18 years (oh my GOSH I suddenly feel old)... and when you live alone, you get to control the noise level, the light level, the general chaos level. And when you visit your daughter and her two wonderful daughters... eh... not so much. She doesn't always deal the best with these changes, so the first few days she's with us tend to be a little tense. And bless her heart she's taking the girls to a time-share about 30 miles from here for the week. I think she may be a glutton for punishment. But I think they'll have fun.

The SECOND incoming object is MISS ESSIE!!! YESSIE ESSIE is comin' home! Monday night I get my baby back. I have not kissed her beautiful face since June 16th!!!! COME TO MOMMA BABY!!!!! I talked to her last night online and she's so ready to come home, and Gert is SO ready to have her sister back (in fact she slept in her bed last night). And I'm so proud of her - her flight home is just shy of 5 hours! To do that on your own when you're 9-years-old? Yeah, I'm proud. Sadly I can't go to the airport to get her, so my mom and Gert and going to get her and I'll be waiting at the timeshare. I asked Essie what she would like me to make for dinner that night, to welcome her home - maybe lasagna or her favorite chicken dish. Nope - tomato soup and grilled cheese - silly Essie! Thanks for making it easy though!

The THIRD incoming object is a needle. Yes, Miss Gert is scheduled to get her going-to-kindergarten shot on Tuesday. She knows this is coming, consequently she wants NOTHING to do with talk of school. Mention it NOT my friends, for fear of the wrath of Gert. I keep telling her that it won't hurt anymore than getting her ears pierced. She doesn't believe me.

Funny Essie story - when she got her Kindergarten shot, the dr. said "We're all good. No more shots until 7th grade." Essie looked right at him and said "Then I'm not going to seventh grade. I'll just skip to 8th"

I'm so happy to hear that you will have your little girl back!!
As for your mom, GOOD LUCK!
My husband laughs at me when his parents come to stay- he thinks I'm the only person in the world who cleans the tops of the door jams. But INSIDE of the disposal?! How do you even do that?!!
I'm impressed :)

I can so relate. There is NO bigger fight at our house than when my husband says, "Oh, by the way, talked to my mom and they are going to drop by... in the morning." Let's just say I turn into TAZ. I am short and hubs and all his family is tall so I start cleaning everything up high (ha!). When we first got married their first visit my MIL said, "Oh, honey, I know you are short but you really need to clean the top of your refrigerator."

The reference to my bootay crack really made me laugh out loud! I should have known that was coming!! Is Essie back to stay for good? I can imagine how excited you must be to see her after so long!! And yeah, those school shots aren't any fun. That is hilarious that Essie said she'd just skip 7th grade! Smart kid!

So glad Essie is coming home. Sorry about Gert's shots though.

Hope you all have a good time.

Poor Gert! I think I said something similar to my dr when he mentioned no more shots until 7th grade. However, Essie probably handled it better than I. As I recall, my 7th grade shots required 3 people to restrain me. Have I mentioned that i don't like needles?

Yikes how do you clean the inside of the garbage disposal?? My mom lives alone too, although she lives in a little cottage thingie right across our patio. Believe it or not, it works well for all of us! She likes things "just so" too and the noise and chaos over here gets to her too. What is it that no matter how old we get, we still want approval from our Moms?? Since we seem to all do it, surely it's normal :-)

YEAAAHHH Essie is coming home!! I know you are so excited!!

Loved the story about Gert wanting to go straight to 8th grade to bypass the shots... I don't blame her! Kids' logic is awesome!!
