Ugh

Ugh

I've had about 10 different blogs start in my head and when I try to write them they all go bad. Frustrating. So I'll just encapsulate.

#1 - Corporate America needs to deal with single working moms better. Face it CEOs - we HAVE to take care of our kids. We aren't going to be taking the time off we earned in big week long chunks. We have to save it for dentist appointments and doctor appointments and conferences and sick kids. And do you (Corporate America) want to be the ones responsible for some kid receiving an award at school, looking out into the crowd and seeing NO ONE there that he knows? Quit trying to make me feel bad for taking care of my kids. Especially when I STILL have time left to take.

#2 - The big phrase these days is "It Gets Better".... specifically targeted towards GLBT Teens who are so distraught by how they are treated and feeling. And I hope for them it does get better. But I gotta say, growing up does not make "it" better. Being a grown up is hard. And sometimes you have to go through stuff that hurts SO badly. And your heart gets broken. And you don't know how to fix it. But you have to. I'm not sure we're selling them an honest bill of goods there. And while I'm at it, I'm kind of tired of this whole sense that it's only GLBT teens are are picked on a bullied. WRONGO GONGO - if you're different, you're a target. And it doesn't always get better.

Sorry... kind of a Debbie Downer (waaa-waaaaaa).... promise to come back later with something light!!!

What's the World's Tiniest Bird Feather?

Cause that's what you could bowl me over with right now. I sent the Ladies dad and e-mail proposing a Holiday schedule (which was MORE than fair I might add). He responded via chat that it looked good but he'd have to check with his mother (he lives with her - she's older and has breast cancer so we don't want to wear her out).

As we were chatting, we got to talking about Essie, and how... hard things are for her. School, social life, etc. He then said:

I feel like we need to find something that she like and is good at and just encourage the heck out of her to do it and be good at it, to me she lacks any confidence in herself at all.
Um..... wow. Yes. I totally agreed. We do need to find something she can be successful at.

And then he said:

I also feel that I am mostly to blame and all the stuff she has gone thru, but we need to find something some way to boost her self confidence.

Oh... my.... word. He said it. He took ownership for it. Sadly it doesn't fix it for her. But for Mr. It's-Never-My-Fault... this is huge. And he's even seeing that comparing her to her sister isn't going to help... and expecting her to fit into a mold that she doesn't fit in isn't going to work. We had to adjust the mold a bit.

Wow. He's got a long way to go, but I am so happy he took this step.
