Fireside Chats with Gert

Ok... it wasn't fireside.. it was in the car on the way to school. And you should know that in Gert's world things need to be fair and balanced (look out Fox News)... if you ask her "which do you like better pizza or cheeseburgers." She will tell you "both"... she just doesn't want anything to feel left out.

Gert (G) - *sniffle*

Me (M) - Do you have a stuffy nose Gert?

G - Uh... since Autumn, November and December I have had a stuffy nose.

M - You mean October, November and December?

G - Yes... What's Autumn?

M - Autumn is another word for fall.

Pause

G - What's another word for Winter?

Pause (Thinking...)

M - There isn't one.

G - What's another word for Spring?

M - There isn't one.

G - What another word for Summer?

M - There isn't one.

Pause

She crosses her arms and humphs "WELL... Why is FALL so special?"

How cute! She's got a good point. I guess we could go with "Frozen" "Bud" and "Swelter"

That's too sweet!! Kids say the funniest things sometimes and it's so neat to hear how they process things and see things on their own levels. Precious!

Never thought of this...Why is Fall so special? It's one of my favorites that's for sure. Your little one is very smart. Look out! ;)

Love that, especially since fall/autumn is my fave... but then winter is wonderful too... and then spring planting....summer, well sun.... oh yeah, I'm one too. When I was little I had to have all the stuffed animals sleeping at the foot of my bed so no one would get their feelings hurt sleeping on the chair and not in the bed!

I can just hear her saying this. And she's right. I wonder how it got two names. You know what is interesting though. Is that I know people that have been named after the seasons. But not one named Fall :-)

It's hard to argue with that:-)

Um... it is the season in which my birthday falls, that's why!

We should rename spring "Vern", like in Vernal.

Winter can be "Leslie" and summer can be "Amanda".

Thanks for your comments on my blog.

I love the complicated thought processes of a five year old. She got the makings of a good career in law.

I like Trooper Thorns' idea.

Although fall/autumn will always be my favorite season, bipolar as she may be.
