AI - 3/3/09

Ok - at the request of Miss Kat, whom I owe much, I am LIVE blogging this week.

Ryan actually doesn't look like a nursing home resident tonight... but he did just do the arm swing thing... though not with as much force, making me think he reads my blog and saw that I have a point.

Hmmm... the chosen 6... WHO does Kris look like.... it's killing me.

Judges. Haven't changed. (Um - can I say that Simon has a great smile)

It's the parade of contestants. Which reminds me of Circus of the Stars. Remember that show?

Von Smith - also looks like someone and I can't figure out who. He says he screamed in Hollywood Week - he's right. He's singing something by Marvin Gaye - All I Need To Get Through? - Hmmm... not too bad... the song has some key changes and he's hanging right in there with them. Not too many pitch problems.... (PETER BRADY - he looks like Peter Brady)... Hum... not too bad. Randy says he started the show right. Kara also liked him - said he had "meaning"... Paula says she loved him. *snark alert* Maybe if Von wins his sister can get some braces. *end snark* Simon says he reminds him of Clay and he sang well, but dresses horribly. Now Ryan and Von yap... yap yap time filing yap.

Next up is Taylor Visomething (Vaifauna) - oh - she has a little sister. She's singing "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys. Well... for starters it's too low.She seems to have black leather tights on... that can't be very.. breathable. Her singing is... okay... eh... she's good but I'm not really drawn into it. Kara seems to think that she should know what it's like to go shopping with Taylor through song? Hmm... Paula wonders why she sang the same song she sang in Hollywood week. Simon thinks she was generic & bland. Of course he got boo'd. Randy almost gets oscared, but agrees with the others that they want more personality.

Back with Alex Wagner-Trugman -modeling a cup? - mmmkay - Alex looks like a male figure skater. He gives Simon crud. We like that. Singing "I Guess That's WHy They Calls It The Blues" by Elton John. I predict Simon says it's Vegas or karaoke. He's on pitch. Which is nice. The rest of it is... smarmy and loud. Paula liked his inner rock star. Simon doesn't like the growling (and I agree) and says he was a hamster trying to be a tiger. Randy says he was buck-wild. Kara says "at least you do you".

Arianna Afsar - another youngster - from San Diego (YO SD!!!) Singing Winner Takes It All from ABBA (Apparently the first ABBA song ever on AI - how is that possible?) She's got a cute little blue dress. And the song isn't going well. She's completely changed the melody and keeps going into a falsetto that she has NO power in at all. Um... yuck. And even her parents know it wasn't good. Simon says it was terrible. So - when the judges say it's a bad arrangement... who arranges these things? Is it really these amateurs? I don't get that. Randy says she tried to do more vocally than was really there. BINGO. Kara says she was dark & depressing. And be young... and touch people... and... maybe be a Coke Commerical? (ok... that part was me) Paula tries to be nice and says she should stick with the melody.

(Interjection - ABBA now makes me think bridesmaids - thanks to Kat, Shannon & Angie)

(Uh oh - live trouble - Mr. B is on the phone)

Ok- next is Ju'Not Joyner Singing Hey There Deliliah - ooo - a pretty ballad type arrangement. On pitch. Nice. Maybe a little boring, but it was nicely done. The judges liked him. I'd like to hear more from him.

FUDGE BUCKETS!!! My DVR rebooted and I missed stuff!!!

Ok - I've gor Kristen McMcNamara in a quite fugly orange dress that is NOT fitting with the song which appears to be "Give Me One Reason".. Hmm... singing wise... oh my she just hit a high note and a couple riffs... and then... Kara starts with the hair. It's never a good sign when the judges start with a compliment on your physical appearance. LOL - Kara agrees that the dress doesn't cut it. Paula says she played in safe (only using about 500 words). Simon & Randy think she over did it, and I agree.

Oh boy... here comes Head-Band-Boy - Nathaniel. He said "I think people want to see Humble Nate".... isn't speaking about yourself in 3rd person sort of automatically not humble? Oh - my - Meatloaf - Anything For Love - And other than missing the outfit, it's so VERY drag-queen show... (And YES I have been to one so I can SAY THAT)(Plus I watch Bravo)... He's flat. And it was... eh. And really... Drag Queen review. And Grandma's there and she's going to get her heart broken. Cause the judges aren't going to like that. Oh... the song choice is a sentimental favorite. HA HA HA - Randy said "Wrap my head around"... to the head band boy. That's funny.
Oh my - Ryan is trying to make Nate & Simon bond...that's so not happening.

We're back.. with... Felicia Barton who is NOT a single mom, but a stay-at-home-mom. She's the replacement for the girl whose name I can't remember who they decided had too many connections in the music world. Felicia is going to sing No One by Alicia Keys. She's got the look... she's got the clothes. Wow... she can SING. You know how the judges always want them to make the song their own? Yeah... not so much this girl. This was a great Alicia Keys tribute band kind of thing. Paula likes her... Simon thought the first bit was better (I agree)... Randy... didn't make sense. Kara noticed her for the first time. Really? Wake up Kara.

Scott MacIntyre - Oh I love him. (for you playing at home he's the one who is legally blind - and that's the last time I'm going to say that if he goes on, because it would bug me to call him "Blind Guy Scott"... cause he's more than his eye-sight). Singing Mandolin Rain - good song. He has a nice voice. It was smooth, and he had some power behind it. I think I liked his Hollywood song better. But the judges are liking it. Honestly - it seems like they're giving him a free pass. Not picking on things that they picked on with other people.

Now we have Kendall - Singing "This One's for the Girls" by Martina McBride... She's wearing yellow. She's... got a cute outfit... she has a nice smile. Um... her hair is well conditioned. (Can you tell I'm avoiding????) Really...not a good performance. Lots of pitch issues. But the judges like that they actually know who she is. I know Simon is insinuating that someone in country music will see her and pick her up, but do we need another cutsie blonde in country music?? Really?

Jorge - I look at him and think... eyebrows. Really big ones. Singing Don't Let The Sun Go Down by Elton John. Hmm... might be a good choice. He's got a nice tone. A few pitch moments here and there. A REALLY nice natural vibrato. Wow... I liked that. Paula...blub lub lub... Simon likes him and says to embrace the accent and heritage. Randy says he was good. And Kara seems to want to make him a global ambassador. Awww- when he gets emotional he forgets english. That's cute.

Ok... last performance (woof - this has only taken me 4 hours) Lil Rounds singing Mary J. Blige "Be Without You". (Wow - she's the mom of 3!) I will say it again - I'm not a big R&B fan, but I will say she's got an amazing voice.... oh... she just changed the words to "call this show if you just can't be without me babe"... THAT was cheesy. She has some pipes though. Simon likes her.. a LOT. Randy also loves her. Kara likes her. Paula thought she sucked. HA HA no she didn't.

Ok.... here's my pick of 3 - gosh it's hard tonight. Well Lil is an obvious one. Felicia? and... Scott/Jorge/Ju'Not.... ha ha... how's that for cheating.

Well since I missed AI live tonight I'm glad you had the play by play. Seems almost like I was watching it just by reading. You're awesome!

I actually think that the vote will be very close. They were all so mediocre. Except for Lil. Who seemed to be the only one with any idea of what she was doing last night.

And yep. Blind guy Scott got a free pass.

Did you forget to tell Mr. B about the gold lame jumpsuits and platform boots? :-)

I also liked Felicia, and I have loved Lil since her very first audition.

As for the men, I've been a Scott fan and he sure does seem like he's going to get a free pass. Now, Jorge I had been sort of "whatever" about up until last night. Last night he totally won me over.

It may've been the PMS hormones talking, but when Kara got choked up and he was all choked up, I got teary as well. (Paula crying does nothing to me, she's such a wacko.)

So I'm rooting for tonight's three to be Jorge, Lil and Felicia, with Scott getting in as the wildcard. However, DialIdol is predicting that the top 3 are Lil, Scott and Ju'not. Darn, I really want Jorge in there too. Also, according to DialIdol, Nathaniel (haaaaaaaate him. *UGH*) got more votes than Jorge. Huh?!?

Can't wait 'til the results show - wooooo-hoo!

This is so much better than watching the show! I don't have to endure the singing and I get the whole wrap up through your great POV!

I didn't much like any of them last night. Well, the last female singer was good. She actually blew everyone else away. I agreed with the judges that she sounded just like Mary J. Hope she can find her own identity and voice.

I agree, Lil was awesome .. and yeah, Scott was handled with care. I hope they don't tiptoe around him all season. And I hope he gets talent votes and not pity votes.

I do not watch AI. After that awful Hicks mess won, I gave up. Peace out, dudes.

p.s. Plus, we already have the new American Idol. He lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

(yes, I went there, Lizzy. you love me.)
