One of the first things that lead me to blogging (just wait til you find out what anniversary is coming up for me) was my love of American Idol and my need to recap it. I don't do much with the early shows because... well they're confusing and kinda dumb. And you get attached to people who get axed and people you've never seen before end up in the final 36 and really... they're kinda dumb.
But last night they pared us down to our 36. So it begins.
Now most of you are new to me and my AI recaps. Let me first say. 9 times out of 10, I fully agree with Simon. Sure, he can be a little cold, but when someone stinks, they need to know it. How can they know they have things they need to fix if someone just claps like a seal and says "You have such a great smile".... Or "Yo Dwag, you keepin it real"... yeah.. that's helpful. I'm interested to see how it goes with the new judge - Kara. So far I like her style, and she seems to be not as unhelpful as Paula (and not as stoned) but a little less crass than Simon. I like it.
This year Ryan seems to be channeling his inner Mr. Rogers in his wardrobe choices. I keep waiting for him to open the show by changing into his Keds tennies.
I'm not gonna do a full recap of all the contestants yet... other than to say that Tatiana makes me want to damage myself, Head-band-boy needs to take the drama down in an amount that would equal the number of our national debt, and Norman/Nick... um... where is THAT gonna go?
On the good side we have Bald Man & Oil Rig Man. Kori and I (who will be watching AI together all season) each love us one of those guys, and they both made it through... I predict they'll go far on the Mommy vote.
I promise to be more detailed in the future, so even if you don't see AI, you'll still be able to relive it in all it's glory.
And it's possible that we'll have a guest reviewer... I'm not promising anything, but we'll see.
OH HEY - please keep Kori in your prayers. Richard gets his scan results today and will be checking in for his 2-week CF tune up today... So actually pray for all of them, okay?
Oh YEAH - one more thing - 34 hours approx til I see Mr. B. But who's counting. :)

I tried to watch this show, but I just can't. I did try. BUT I enjoy your updates. :-)
I enjoy the auditions but I poop out otherwise.
On another note, did you see Paula Abdul on Leno last night? I think she's permanently drunk.
Totally agree on AI and I too really like Kara so far. My big kids are really liking the "working" men! And why???? Tatiana, hello............
I also like the music teacher guy, love his voice!!!
I don't keep a close eye on AI the whole way through usually, but I LOVE Oil Rig guy! So handsome :)
Isn't AI that movie with the freaky kid from that "I see dead people?" movie?
I used to love Mr. Rogers. Like a grandpa, not an "I wanna do that guy" way.
P.S. Can you tell I don't watch American Idol??
Lizzy,
Ok...so I'm an AI geek too and I also felt like slicing my wrists when Tatiana started her screeching. I think Simon would be right there with me too. I think she is going to be his Sanjaya this year. I wonder if she's really that spazzy or if it's an act.
Speaking of Sanjaya and why he made it so far. I'm wondering if The Norman/Nick Show will be Vote For the Worst's pick this season. They usually pick the person who they feel is the most entertaining and it's normally in an annoying way - ala Sanjaya (please, please, please, I ask those Sanjaya fans to not flame my comments on my blog - I agree he is cute and unique and all that but he's just not AI material - IMHO). Although since they can see how Tatiana affects Simon, they might pick her. It's gonna be a fun season!
Hugs,
Rene
I came over from Kat's blog. I'm an AI fan too. I SO wanted Tatiana gone. I'm pretty sure she'll be the first contestant picked by VFTW.
Did you also hear that Joanna Pacitti, the one that already had an album, has been disqualified, and replaced by Felicia Barton.
I'm really glad we're finally getting to the REAL competition part. Now things get serious!
Yeah, I don't even watch the beginning shows anymore, just once it gets wittled down.
I'll be looking forward to your recaps!
I've never been tooo big on the show. I almost feel like the winners music is for kids or teenage girls or something. I do like some of the music these talented vocal artists create. The problem with me is the fact that it all seems sooo manufactured like most of the rest of the music I hear. I really think it is a great way for some of these kids to make it. But how much fun is it now watching the goofballs singing in the beginning. Great hook for the mindless. That part of the show should be taken out period. Those terrible singers made it through other judges because of how bad they really are. To finally come to the TV judges and get laughed at for being so terrible. That sort of stuff makes me get in my Hot Tub for an hour with its' TV off.
Not too critical am I?
I don't watch AI, but I always get a kick out of reading people who are involved.
Yay! for seeing Mr. B.! Your Valentine's Day is going to be awesome.
I love AI! I can't BELIEVE that Tatiana made it through. It is now my goal to get her off the show as soon as possible. She is horrible and should not be in the top 36 and neither should hand band boy. They should LEAVE now.
And that is all I have to say about that.
you have an award at my blog!! Come get it!!
I totally have abandon AI this season. LOL Even the auditions which are usually my fave!
I'll check back in to see what you have to say though!
Ahh...
You lost me.
Girl, if I can get my druthers together, my post today will be all about the ones of the 36 that are DRIVING.ME.CRAZY. And that lunatic Tatiana is at the TOP of the list. I finally had to mute it last night to keep from throwing a chair at the tv. Glad I'm not alone in the AI obsession!
I have been a fan since the first season, and I love it! Can't believe it's been 8 years already!
I agree, they let a few good ones go and kept some really whack ones, but I think its all for entertainment purposes.
I love Simon :)
I totally agree on your assessment of the talent to date. I can't believe they put that norman thing through and not the 'bromance' duo (you know, the guy who lost his wife (who I totally love) and his holding pen buddy with the piercings) friend.
There is a lot of talent this year despite the drama.
I'm waiting to comment until I watch it on TiVo tonight. I bet I agree with you, though, based on the previous shows.
I don't really watch AI, so I'll just have to enjoy it through you.
I am glad you are updating the show since I don't always watch it!! Your updates will be more fun anyway!!
I am late to the party...when can I see a picture of Mr.B?
I vote for William Hung. Every time.
I used to watch the whole season. Now I just wait until they've narrowed it done to about this number or less. I'm with you I tend to agree with Simon. 'Keeping it real is not the most helpful critizim one can get.' I'll keep my eyes out for Bald man and oil rig.
All the best to Kori and Richard.

I really can't stand the audition shows. In fact, I am good to start watching with the final 12. I know I will enjoy your recaps.
I LOVE talking AI with people! I despise Tatiana and drama mohawk boy. They need to hit turf immediately. LOVE oil rig and bald man. And there are a few girls I think will do pretty well. I also like that rocker guy who looks the part already...I think his name is Adam. Anyway...can't wait to watch more!
I don't start watching anymore until Hollywood Week. And now that the top 36 have been named, I really don't know who my fave is yet...
