God's Present Location

I was going to put this on FB, and I still might.  I just don't want to start a huge thing, but then again I kind of do.

I'm about to gag on all these posts and people saying that shootings like the one in Connecticut happen because "we've taken God out of schools".

Seriously?

Do we REALLY think that we are SO SO SO powerful and amazing that we can take God out of or put God into ANYTHING?  HE'S there.  Everywhere.  All the time.  The reason we like to say it is because then it somehow answers the question of why He allowed it.  The answer then becomes it's the fault of people who won't let God in school.... or the people who took him out.  Gosh darn, if those people had not just exercized a power GREATER THAN GOD, we'd be fine.  Oh wait.  What about when people charge into churches and kill people there?  What's the explanation then?  That church wasn't... churchy enough?

ARGH!!!

It happened because bad people do bad things, and sometimes good people do bad things.  We live in a fallen world and bad things happen every day.  It's our knee-jerk reaction to want to find a way to fix this, once-and-for-all.  But we can't.  I read a letter from a police chief who said it's time to secure our schools and let no one in but staff and students.  The doors should be locked.  All the time.

Well... then if we do that.  We should probably make it illegal to transport children in cars.  Cause that's actually where more children are killed every day.

And of course we're going to have to talk about gun control.  Because that's what we do when this happens.  And we do need to control certain types of guns, and the way people access them.  But let's face it, if someone wants to get a hold of a gun to do something bad... they're going to.  What we REALLY need to focus on is making access mental health care SO MUCH easier than it is now.  Many insurances don't cover mental health, or cover "1-3 visits"  whoopie... that'll fix it.  THAT'S something we need to fix.  But again... there's no complete fix.  There is no such thing as a guarantee that this won't happen again.

I can not IMAGINE the hell those parents are going through.  I hope I never have to imagine.  The thing we can do right now is love our kids, and help them though times like this.  And, if they ever show signs of needing help, we need to get it for them.

Ok... getting off the soapbox now.

Thank you. Now I don't have to bother to write this. And I am not going to post a link to it and drag it into the sea of irrationality out there. I refuse to cast your pearls before the swine. You forgot to write about the statements of how now our schools are not safe anymore and no wonder people home school. (Plenty of good reasons for doing that, but this would not be one!) But still, I'm refraining. Love the way you think!

Oh, I am so glad you posted this here, since I left facebook. I would have missed all the controversy.
My first reaction was to say how very wrong you are that it wasn't because we kicked God out of our institutions, but you are right, there is not one of us who is more powerful than God, to make Him leave. I do, however, believe that God is a gentleman and will not intrude where He is not wanted.

But, no matter how you think about it, it was a senseless tragedy, and it makes us more cognizant of the blessings we have in our lives.

I totally agree with you and the issue of religion in schools. NOTHING and I mean not ONE THING would have kept that monster out as long as he was determined to get in. IF the world thinks that there is any solution to this, they are sadly mistaken. Evil lurks EVERYwhere and no matter what is done it will continue to happen. If not in schools, anywhere else that large amounts of people gather. Sad, but true. All we can do is live life to the fullest and have faith that we will be ok.
