I'm big on birthdays, mine and any one else's. I like having people recognize my birthday. I like hearing people sing happy birthday to me. And I like doing it for others.
The first birthday I have a clear memory of was my 3rd or 4th birthday. We went to Farrell's ice cream parlor. It was all good and fun until they brought out the birthday cake and were honking an old car horn. That scared the beejezus out of me and I cried.
I remember my 16th birthday. My parents (who were divorced) both got me 16 presents. For a total of 32. Not a bad haul.
I remember my 14th birthday. My mom had to be gone and I was staying with friends. Before she left, she gave each of my teachers a piece of a puzzle in an envelope. At the end of each class, that teacher gave me the envelope, and by the end of the day there was just one piece missing. What I did have I put together and it said to go to the school office to get my last piece. I got to the office and there were flowers and balloon waiting for me!!!!!
My mom is good with birthdays.
Today I got a card from her that says... she's definitely moving to Atlanta!!!! WOO HOO!!! Now, she drives me crazy, but I KNOW that will be better if she's close by. The reason she drives me nuts is because we have to shove a years worth of visits into 9 days and a 1 bedroom (and more importantly one BATHROOM) apartment... and that just doesn't cut it!! So I'm pretty excited. She's looking at sometime around August 1.

YAY! Happy Birthday!! I love a good b-day too. One of my favorites was my 13th. My took me and a bunch of friends to an all you can eat ice cream bar. I think I ate 5 or 6 sundaes. And I thought it was AWESOME. I hope you have a wonderful day!!!

My best birthdays have been with my sweet hubs and my boys. Every year they make me a birthday cake and decorate it.

I used to go to Farrell's for my birthday, too. I loved the upside down ice cream cone sundae made to look like a clown. I don't remember being scared, though.
My parents always made a big deal about my birthday; I got to pick out whatever meal I wanted my mom to make (usually roast chicken, mashed potatoes, cheesy cauliflower/broccoli and a yellow cake with chocolate icing).
Now I'm hungry...

For my 15th birthday, I had an ice skating party (December bday) followed by a sleepover. I invited 4 friends and I thought we were going skating at this rink that was about 20 minutes away from our house, and I was so busy chatting away with my friends in the back of the van that it was a while before I noticed we'd gone straight past the exit for the ice rink and were still on the highway! Smarta$$ that I was, I pointed out quickly to my dad that he'd missed the turn. Everyone in the van busted out laughing. Turns out we were on our way to go ice skating at Rockefeller Center under the Christmas tree and everyone knew but me! We had so much fun skating at night under the lit tree, then getting dessert in Little Italy before heading home for the sleepover. Awesome birthday!!!

I've got plenty - parties at Showbiz, 13th at Chi-Chi's where they MADE me wear a sombrero. And take a picture in it. Or maybe it was my 28th when we were on a cruise and the staff sang "Hoppy Birfsdaaay to Yoou" ...ah the memories!
HAPPY (late) BIRTHDAY!!! If I were there, I would sing you a really loud and obnoxious fake birthday tune, a la Olive Garden. But I am not...so consider yourself lucky! :)

I'll wish you another Happy Birthday and hope that it was a great one! And that's awesome that your Mom made it so special growing up. Birthdays were never a big deal for me growing up, so I'm trying really hard to make that day special for each of my girls every year!
