I told them we could go to a matinee today, but we COULD NOT afford popcorn or pop. Just the movie. They both were total angels and said "That's fine Mom. We don't need it." I was so proud of them, and of course it broke my heart I couldn't get them anything.
So we get to the theater and pay for the tickets and the guy gives me my tickets and says "Oh, you've earned enough points for a small pop and popcorn."
Thank you Jesus. For the little things that are SO HUGE.

First of all, wasn't that a FANTASTIC movie? Kiddo was a little bit scared for a lot of the movie (didn't like the villian and when the dogs were menacing) but Hubby and I love, love, loved it!
Secondly, seriously, WHO can afford movie tickets for more than 1 plus popcorn/candy and soda these days? It's flippin' ridiculous how much concessions cost!!! Yay that you got some for free with your points! I'm a fan of "smuggling stuff into the theater in my ginormous purse and/or coat pockets" method. I'm not paying $5 for a bottle of water when I can buy a CASE of bottles of water at Sam's for $3.80!!! Sheesh!!
I want to see Up again, but it will have to wait for DVD. :)
Shhhh...smuggle it in. Invest in a movie purse :-)
Michael and I went to see Star Trek this week...just the two of us...and it cost $37 for two tickets, a popcorn, and two drinks. Highway robbery.
But I will smuggle from now on. Not only because of the cost...but do you know how many points are in a medium movie popcorn? I won't tell you. It's way scary.
That's awesome! Little things make a huge impact! :)
Sweet! All the way around.
that is really cool. you are right, it is the little things.
(I always put some gummy worms or something in my purse) but awesome! Yeah for free popcorn!!
Didn't you just LOVE the movie???
Guurl, that is such the work of God! But, I will totally confess, I sneak in candy. All.the.time.
Yes...thank you God! I am glad you had a good time!
oh lady, we can never afford the popcorn or treats. with a movie with a family of 9, we sneak in junk.. bad I know, slap my hand!
little blessings are the best!
Oh, Lizzy Loo... you're right, it's the little things that can make the biggest impact.
I confess... I am a smuggler, too. I'll buy a popcorn, but will take in a bottle of coke! If the girls are with me, I'll also sneak in a drink for them to share and maybe some candy!
Sometimes His smallest blessings are the best!!
That's so neat! The minute you let it go, it came back to you:-)
Don't you love little random Acts of God. I saw UP with my men folk, loved it!
I am so telling the movie police on all you self-confessed smugglers!
Just kidding.
(I am the occasional smuggler, too).
So, did you cry? Did you? Or am I the only sappy one here?
We don't go often, but I smuggle sometimes too. I'm not a big fan of popcorn, so would much prefer some chex mix. It's just crazy expensive these days!
I love stories like this!
What good kids!
What AWESOME LUCK!
We always smuggle stuff in. I have my movie camouflage purse. It's just ridiculous how much they charge. For the price of one large popcorn we can have a feast from the 7-Eleven. Do I feel guilty? Forgedaboutit.
The Lord do provide. He take care o' His peeps.
That's awesome!
I'm only slightly nauseated that I went and saw this last week with my kids and.....well.......40 flippin' bucks later.....We had seen an alright movie with unnecessary 3-D. Did you see it in 3-D? I just thought, what was the point? It was a touching story, but I thought a little too mature for my youngins.
I'm happy that you found a glimpse of God's favor in your trip with the ladies. I love it when He reveals Himself like that.
I'm ALL for smuggling in drinks and treats! My kids are all adults now, and they do the same because especially when it's THEIR own money, they think it's ridiculously expensive.
Aside from that Lizzy, your girls are learning a valuable lesson. Raising three children as a single parent, my kids went without a lot of WANTS. I always reminded them that I could provide what they "needed", but not so much what they "wanted". You know what?
They all grew up to be very un-materialistic people. They realized that when they had the opportunity to buy most of what they thought their hearts desired--it wasn't so great. It did not fill a need they thought they had.Now I know that isn't the way all kids turn out, but I'm very grateful that mine did. They have great memories of "family game nights",etc.
Ha, ha..I recall when one of the boys would be wanting a certain toy or something that a friend had, and I would always say "well, they may have a such and such, but they don't have ME"--it never failed to make them laugh and say "Mooommm". You can't buy love and we sure had it!
Wow! That is so cool!
You're right about that. The little things are GiNORmous! And I hear this flick is wonderful. Hope you all had so much fun!
A true blessing!

I love little things like that!!
Growing up we could never afford to buy things at the theater, so my mom would pop popcorn at home and pack it in baggies for us, and bring along juice boxes :)
Now THAT makes me want to shout! God is good!
Now I have to tell you that I've looked and haven't seen it posted at our local movie theater that we CAN'T so...
We always go to the Dollar Tree and buy 1 dollar candy and bring it in inside of my purse. YES that does sound a bit dishonest (Mind you I looked to see if they banned it) but the prices seem like theft!
Did you love UP? It maybe one of our favorite ever!
I'm a smuggler too! One of theaters has a Coldstone next door. My hubby and I stopped in for a creation to share and the kid working the movie door was nice enough to let me take it in! LOL He did tell me to hurry before anyone saw me!
I am LOVING Susie's comment! She is SO right!
And again I say that everything happens for a reason!
And I'm with Kat on investing in a movie purse. Shannon & I each have one and we'll be using them again this week when we go to see The Proposal.
