Let's Go to The MOOOOOOOOVIESSSS....

Mr. B and I talk about movies sometimes. Some of the ones he has not yet gotten around to seeing yet AMAZE me. For example, he's a BIG super hero fan (well, his boys are more than he but still) at any rate, he's not seen The Incredibles!!! And, he's a HUGE fan of the Young Astronauts Program but (Lula honey, cover your ears, this gets ugly) he's not seen SPACE CAMP.

With that confession today came one that simply BLOWS MY MIND!!! Now, just to put this out there right now, for some people this would be the end of the relationship, but I'm determined to help him through this. That's how much I care.

The man. Has not. Seen. The PRINCESS BRIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW CAN ANYONE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 35 and 45 NOT have seen that?? I was STUNNED. Simply and completely STUNNED!!! He's the quintessential person who SHOULD have seen it. It's not like he was a jock who was busy learning how to run a 5-2 defense in the locker room.... I still can't believe he hasn't seen it.

So that lead to a discussion of other "must see" movies of the 80's/90's. I asked him if he'd seen "Ferris Buller's Day Off" and he had the NERVE to blurt out "OF COURSE". OF COURSE... you can't say of course when you've just shared that you've never seen one of the greatest movies of all time! And most certainly an 80's cult CLASSIC!!

So being the cute, supportive man he is, he said I should blog about this and find out what other movies people think are classics that must not be missed. So start talking ladies. What movies (especially from the 80's/90's) should be on the list?

You MUST make him watch When Harry Met Sally... It is one of my ALL-TIME FAVS! My husband has yet to see it straight through, but we (er, I) keep it in the the VCR* in the bedroom for nights when I can't sleep. He therefore sees bits and pieces of it on a weekly basis. He's not completely opposed, which is good, because otherwise I might have to leave him :)

*Yes, we still have a VCR... I have too many great VHS tapes to get rid of it!

And might I add...
I'm not sure if you were meaning it the way I was singing it when I read the title of your post, but "Let's. go see. the staaaaaaarrrrsss."

Annie?!

Um... (blushes with embarrassment)
I too have never seen the Princess Bride. (shameful expression here)

It was even on the other day and I just skipped right over it. But not next time. Oh no not next time.

In addition to The Princess Bride, I'm going with Steel Magnolias and Pretty Woman. Sorry for the chick flick theme, but Mr. B sounds like a pretty progressive guy. :-)

Space Camp? Nope. I have never even heard of it. Princess Bride? Nope. Ferris Bueller? Once. I'm lame I know.

What about Breakfast Club? Or St. Elmo's Fire? Or Pretty in Pink or 16 Candles? All 80's movies.

"Give me the gate key."

"I have no gate key..."

"Fezzik, rip his arms off!"

"Oh, you mean this gate key?"

Most favorite part in the entire movie. And I have been to the "Cliffs of Insanity" in real life, also known as The Cliffs of Mohr in Ireland. Oh yes--I have stepped foot on that sod. Y'all must watch The Princess Bride next time you're together.

And hello...Lizzy...not seeing Space Camp is almost grounds for a break-up, girl. Get him right with God...y'all need to make it a double feature night. Wonder if he'll find Jinx lovably cute or sweetly annoying?

My husband had never seen "The Usual Suspects" until a couple of years ago. I was all, "HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE SEEN THIS? It's a manly man type film and I have it memorized!" Keyser Soze, indeed!

My husband is a movie buff! He can quote lines from so many movies, it's mind-boggling!

Me? Not so much. I like to watch movies, but it's hard for me to sit still at home for that long, LOL!!

Most of the movies I have seen in recent history are animated!! When we do rent a movie to watch at home... IF I can make myself sit still, I usually fall asleep long before the movie is over!! Ohhhhhhhhh the joys of "Mommyhood!" LOL!!

Even if he HAD seen the Princess Bride, what man would admit it?!

I remember the first time I saw TPB. All the kids were gathered on the couch in the family room, and one last little (actually tiny) cousin jumped on the pile--and one of the couch legs fell off! For so many years, we've teased her about carrying a "wide load," except she's 16, and couldn't weigh more than 105 pounds! Anyway, it's a great flick and you need to get him "turned on" to it. I'd also check to make sure he's seen "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," before you take this friendship any farther. And what about "The Rookie"? BTW, Aunt Julie needs help planning the rehearsal dinner for her son's wedding, and needs your help. Plus, she's giving away a complete set of Pop'rs in the bargain, starting today-the best way to encourage your family to Eat Their Veggies! Please drop in sometime and check it out!

Oh man, there are too many to list....but Princess Bride is absolutely right up there!! All the 80's flicks, Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, Say Anything, Grosspointe Blank (yes, I'm a John Cusak fan from way back)

My husband has never watched PB in it's entirety. Someday I'll accomplish getting him to watch the whole thing....

I LOVE The Princess Bride. One of my all time, most favorite movies.

What about Rocky Horror Picture Show? Or Breakfast Club? Or Empire Records?

If the PB is on TV, my hubby will find it. He's seen it so many times he can probably recite the entire movie! Another one he can't not watch if it's on is Space Balls.

The Princess Bride is a must. My husband would probably say, Back to the Future or Field of Dreams. I can't pick one b/c I loved so many. Many great picks on here though! Cocktail. A pretty good one, and the John Cusack one where he is the guy who draws and his name is Lloyd with the French foreign exchange student. Who remembers Endless Love? That's one I never have seen b/c I wasn't old enough when it came out, but was so mad b/c of cousins that got to see it.

I can't stand it when someone denies seeing a movie in a condescending way, like they had better things to do than watch Bull Durham, Die Hard, Beverly Hills Cop, The Big Chill, Inner Space, The Three Amigos, Batman (with Michael Keaton), Multiplicity, Tin Cup, Lethal Weapon, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Witness, Con Air, Remember the Titans, Rudy, Silverado, Full Metal Jacket, Field of Dream or Groundhog Day.

Sorry, can't think of any movies off the top of my head...

When I think '80's, Breakfast Club always comes to mind. I had crushes on both the jock guy (can't remember his name) and the bad boy (have I mentioned I'm bad with names?) Then I think of Dirty Dancing.

'90's--Robin Hood, and then the hilarious Robin Hood, Men in Tights. I loved them both.
