Blag... Blag... Blag...

All around the bloggisphere today is talk about good blogging and bad blogging and so on and so forth. One question raised by many over time is how best to reply to questions asked in your comments. Do you reply right there in YOUR comments and hope they come back and see your answer, or do you go over to THEIR blog and reply to the question in THEIR comments and make people wonder what you're talking about.

SO - I'm gonna do a little survey over there on the right, and whatever the consensus comes out, that's what I'm going with. So... vote away babies!!!!!

I sometimes answer back in my own comments or I go to theirs and I don't mind if no one else knows what the comment was on my blog because it is my blog..LOL I roll with whatever. Dawn...she does the answers on her blog...that is pretty cool. LIKE once a week list out the answers to questions on your comments and then answer them. IT does not really matter to me...I check back on comments or blog if I leave a question. Sometimes people will email. I put my email up on my profile and do not mind if people email....so I just do whatever.

I vote to post replies on your own blog because that way everything is kept in context.

Wow, this entry seems familiar! :) Honestly I still don't know what to do. Like I mentioned before in the Livejournal world, you can comment to each comment you receive individually and that works like a charm. But here in Blogger world it seems you either don't reply, try and email, comment in your own blog or comment in the person that posed a question. I am still stumped as to what will work across the board and work well. I really think as ling as I don't get reprimanded I am going with comment back on said questioneer's blog.

I'm going to go with other, and say it depends on the whole situation. If it's a simple/funny/rhetorical question, I answer it in my comments or just laugh and ignore it. If it's a question by a reader I know looks at my blog a lot, and it isn't a really serious question, I answer in the comments.

If it's a serious question from someone asking for advice or something, I'll go over and leave a comment on their page, where I know they will see it again. If it's a question from a new reader, I answer it on their page and comment on a few of their other blogs, too.

You asked a good question! I've heard rumors about bloggers getting pissed when someone posts something "off topic" (even though it's their own stupid question) on their blog. Get over yourself, lady! I say, any comment is a good comment. If someone smacked my hand for leaving a comment, I would NEVER visit that page again. (And I'd have to write a post making fun of that person.)

That's one of my biggest problems, but like Tam said, I have been recapping my questions/answers on my blog every so often figuring that maybe other people might want to know the answer too. I don't go back to read answers when I leave a comment because I just never think about it, but sometimes I will email the person or go to their blog and answer something. It's hard to know what to do!!

There are rules to blogging? I don't follow rules. My blog, my answers, my comments. LOL! If it doesn't make sense to someone else, oh well. bwhahahahahahaha

I tend to lean toward the leaving of the comments on the askers blog. That way, she who asked will now know, and curious readers of her blog will venture to your blog to see what the original question was. Thus equals more viewers and/or more comment love for you. Everyone wins!

I started checking this topic out tonite..ya know because I have nothing to do. It seems blog.spot people are going with the flow where as wordpress and web long there is more rules. HMMM OK so I put a little thingy at the bottom of my blog...I found a pic of a etiquette book....people could just put it on their blogs and let readers know what they want. SO I put it at the bottom of mine as a test run....lets see if I get any comments....or not. IT is way at the bottom...lol lol

I tend to answer stuff on my own blog, but here lately, I've been answering on the questioners blog also. It gives me an opportunity to visit them and likely find a new favorite to add to my reader.

I've done both but I don't know which is best!?!?

I wonder the same thing :) I always comment back on my own blog and then comment on their blog to tell them that I replied to their comment on my blog. Phew! Seems like too much work!!
