#1 - Have I become a old
fuddy duddy? I was checking out the wedding registry of a young couple today. It had some typical kitchen stuff, some bathroom stuff... and then 2 new fancy
schmancy Ipods, some fancy
schmancy ear-buds for said
ipods, some fancy
schmancy holders for said
Ipods... all total about $700. That just seems inappropriate to me. I mean... aren't registries for "setting up housekeeping'? Do you need an
Ipod for that?? I don't know... it rubbed me the wrong way. I guess, if someone has the cash to do it, more power to them...
I don't know... am I being an old lady???
#2 - We went to the Girl Scouts Recruitment day today. The girls had a blast. Here's some pics:

It sounds like that couple is a little confused about what the wedding gifts are for, but I guess why not put it and see if you get it? I love the pictures! Are both of the girls able to join or just Essie?
Totally, totally, totally innapropriate. Sheets? Check. Towels? Check. Dishes? Check. IPods? Nuh-Uh.
Girl Scouts looked fun.
Hmmm...iPod promotes individual time, not togetherness. Marriage is about togetherness. My vote is that it is inappropriate, but what do I know?!
GS Recruitment looked like fun!
Methinks the boyfriend got ahold of the registry scanner for about 5 minutes...while his future bride went to the restroom! Buy just the Ipod earbuds and write a note saying, "From your registry! Sorry, can't afford an IPOD. Enjoy!" It would be hilarious. ;)
I agree with you. Showers are for setting up housekeeping not asking for grown up toys!! That is ridiculous!
Those are great pics of the girls! Looks like they had a lot of fun today!
Seems like a weird addition to the registry to me. I don't think I would have the balls to list those!
That is very poor taste.
I LOVE the pictures of the girls. You got some really great shots of them. You know I love shots from behind and that one of Gert is PRECIOUS! I think it shows how little she is - but yet shows how big (independent) she is trying to be.
CUTE CUTE CUTE!
Some people just have nerve. I wouldn't dare do that, but I guess some just see what they can get away with.
Your girls are so cute :D
iPods on a wedding registry???? Yeah, totally inappropriate.
It looks like the girls had a blast.
I totally agree with you. That does seem not quite right. Young people these days.
Well, as a Mom of kids who have registered...these dumb wedding books tell them to register for that crap! I am sure it helps our country with consumerism! But, I don't know how old the couple are but many couples these days have already set- up their households (mine hadn't but others have) but...anyway I remember the kids questioned me about whether to ask for things like that. My suggestion was No and they agreed! :)
BTW...the girls look beautiful and it looks like it was fun!
Love the pixes! BTW, are the girls part of your campaign? You could cynically use your family, and might just win! And, yes, I get a tad irritated when I see expensive, unnecessary stuff on wedding registries. I just don't get it. Perhaps their parents didn't learn 'em right?
that's weird but I've been called an old fuddy duddy too so...
heck people didn't register for gifts when I got married LOL, and when I was PG with MB I used the baby registry and got a LOT of criticism from he family so I probably come from a long line of fuddy duddies LOL
great pictures of the girls
No way are you an old fuddy duddy... ipods on a regisry is inappropriate! The Mother of the Bride should have smacked the bride upside the head!
Are your girls in girl scouts? Do they like it? Emmy (my 6 year old) will be in Brownies this year; we're both excited! ;)
CUTENESS in the pictures!!!
As for the registry I think part of the problem is that people live together and have a house together before they get married so they really don't NEED anything. We were old fashioned. There was no living together before we got married and we had all the standard stuff on our registry. Except the elephant watering cans. Those were just cool.
Registries are just weird.
We went to a wedding in April, and there were definitely 8 vases on the registry...
WHAT THE HECK?!
Who needs 8 vases?!
Maybe I should register for a flatscreen TV for my bedroom when the time comes for a baby shower :)
I don't know Ipod and TV, they are both used for entertainment. The couple might have a longer marriage being able to tune one another out!
That's right up there with asking for "cash only" totally tacky in my neck of the woods.
If you're an old lady than I am too. Totally ridiculous IMO.
Looks like the girls had a great time!!
Love the pictures of the girls! Looks like it was a lot of fun..
No, you're not old or a fuddy duddy. We've turned weddings and babies into reasons to get tons of free stuff and forgotten the true meaning of these celebrations.
I saw one where the couple had pretty much every video in Target's collection on their registry. Um, really?
Those photos are gorgeous! Those GIRLS are gorgeous!
Why does that surprise me? It shouldn't, not the way people are these days, its almost like they expect it of everyone....grrrrrr
The girls are soo cute:)
Well, I must be a fuddy-duddy too, because I would be pretty unimpressed with iPod items on a wedding registry. Especially for a young couple trying to set up a new home.
And the girl scout pics are great! Are your girls involved in scouting. I'm excited about getting my girls into Brownies in a few years.
You're Fuzzy Ducks are sooooooooo adorable. Definitely an asset in a Presidential Campaign! BTW, I have a Bit O' Bling for you over at my place this morning. Here's to a long-lasting & prosperous collaboration!
You are not being an old fuddy duddy...you are being realistic and practical and considerate. That really makes me angry that they are asking for that. Really angry. I hope they get a purple blender instead.
You know what irks me more than the ridiculous stuff on registries? (I saw one this summer that had a laptop, couch, love seat, & coffee tables, AND dining room furniture--no kidding!) It's the fact that rarely does anyone send a thank you note for gifts these days. The last 4 wedding gifts I've given have not been acknowledged. Wait, one person thanked me. That's it. But dang it, I took the time to purchase something thoughtful AND monogrammed (because what bride doesn't love to see her new initials all front and center?), but do I get a thank you note? Nooooooooooo!
Clearly I'm a tad bitter.
Your daughters are gorgeous. I need to hug them.
Oh, I so agree with Lula! I have even handmade beautiful thank you cards for a gift (with a hint, hint) for baby showers. Umm, never received a thank you for the past few. Emily Post is probably rolling in her grave right about now.
Those girls of yours are adorable, and look like they're having such fun! You are doing such a great job being their mom, I can just tell.
FYI, got a Great New Giveaway going on over at my place, to commemorate my 100th post--please stop by!
IPODS???? Heck what happened to the #1 "must have" toaster??? I swear kids these days!!
HAPPY MONDAY! Great Photo's!

Inappropriate. Totally.
I agree....iPODs don't belong on a registry. If they want those they should have just used gift certificates they got from their wedding.
Love all the pics of your girls....looks like they had a good time.
If you're old than I am too. I too do not believe IPODs belong on a Wedding registry. It is for home/house necessities. Tools, towels, dishes, glasses, etc. NOT IPODS.
Not fuddy-duddy AT ALL! I think them having those items on their list is so inapproproate.
Girls look great!!
Yeah...I think the ipod is inappropriate. If they want the ipods that badly, they should just use the cash that they are sure to receive.
Another fuddy-duddy chiming in, no way do I think iPods-n-accessories are an appropriate registry item. Yeesh!
Love the GS pics! I was so hoping my kiddo could become a Daisy this year, but the troop for our area meets too late at night. They told me "we really try to be done by 7:30 at the latest" well, sorry, but my kindergartener has been falling asleep by 7 since she started school!
Hopefully next year she will be able to stay up late enough to join! I loved Scouting when I was a kid!
Cheers!
Since people are waiting longer to get married, they might not be really needing anything for the house. It's not a housewarming gift, but a wedding gift, right? That said, I wouldn't put an iPod (or the future equivalent) on my gift registry!
