Keep on Eye on this One.

In Gert's kindergarten class there is a bulletin board with a green circle, a yellow circle and a red circle. Every one's name starts out in the green circle. If they receive a warning regarding some mis-behavior, then they have to move their name to the yellow. If they do it again, they go to the red and a note goes home. At the end of each day the teacher puts a colored sticker on the take home paper that correlates to whatever circle the ended the day on. Gert has had green every single day.

Last night she informed me that for a while she was on yellow, but Mrs. M put her back on green. I asked why the brief detour to yellow.

At that point she hung her head and said "I don't want to tell you."

"Gert... you need to tell me."

"I don't want to."

"Gert... either you tell me and you don't get in trouble because Mrs M already dealt with it, or I e-mail Mrs. M to find out, and then you do get in trouble for not telling me the truth."

Gert sighs...... "I was spanking myself."

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But then

"And Hank spanked me too."

Hmmmm... Hank... paws off... and... should I be worried???

Dear Mr. Essie's Teacher,

I ran into some parents last night at Chick-Fil-A night, and we were comparing notes about you. Everyone says you're great with the kids, a little poor on parental communication. Yeah... they pegged that.

I realize at this point you're young and your only children are canine, but let me share this with you. When a parent e-mails you regarding how their child - the love of their life... their baby... their pooh bear... their contribution to the future of the word - is doing, replying to that parent that the child is doing well IF YOU REMEMBER CORRECTLY isn't probably the SMARTEST thing to say. #1 - it implies you really don't have any idea about that child and #2 - it implies you're a smidge lazy that you couldn't even perhaps look at your grade book or... in some way verify your assertion that they're doing "pretty well."

Now... thanks to Mr. B, I have decided to believe that if things were really bad, you would KNOW who Essie is and how's she's doing, so I'll go with a kind of "no-news-is-good-news" kind of stance... but really... it's your 3rd year of teaching now... it's time to step things up a notch.

Respectfully - Lizzy

Oh boy, we had our share of dealing with a teacher who only responded to any and every question about J with "He's doing fine." I feel your pain. I hope your communication with the teacher improves because ours never got any better and I really don't like that teacher at all. If by some chance she's still at the school when A hits 3rd grade, I'll be requesting that she be placed in the other 3rd grade class, thank you very much.

Did you send it to him? Did ya? He obviously needs to read it.

I will take Hank down. Clearly he needs to move a notch. HANDS OFF, dude.

No Diggity! Amen Mama!

I have had an email out to a teacher for 4 days now. No response. Follow up email. No response. What do you suggest??

Now that kid is an overachiever! I don't think I got to spanking until i was twenty ;)

Just kidding...when in doubt call guidance and complain. As a former teacher, nothing lights a fire for communication than a higher up complaining.

Do try to give it at least 24 hours to respond. You never know when their free period is.

Spanking in K? What will middle school be like? Yikes!

She and Hank were spanking her butt...that's kind of funny.

Today Elizabeth had her hand down the back of her pants, and I thought she was trying to pull up her underwear. I asked her what she was doing and she said, "I'm loving my butt." Here she was patting her own butt. Vain much?

Go Mr. B! I sent Ben's teacher an email today offering to volunteer in her classroom (since I signed up at open house and hadn't heard back). I got a reply in two minutes flat. (Thankfully I knew it was lunch time.) She said that she really doesn't use volunteers much. Likes to do things herself. Sigh.

I'm in no position to throw stones-I'm a do it yourselfer too.

I...will...(have to)....get over it.

Oh, poor Tracy P. Last year, neither of my kids' teachers used volunteers. I felt so out of touch. This year, all three kids' classes need volunteers! But really, I am glad. I want to be present in the schools as much as I can.

I love your post today...cracking up over here. So, did you ask Gert the reason behind the "spanking"? I wanna know...

Hank and spanking? Whoa!

Could it be this teacher never really gets emails from parents?? And therefore has no clue how to respond? But then again after 3 years he isn't a novice! Good luck with getting him with the program.

Spanking is always good! LOL

Keep after the teacher with the communication. They should know how to deal with parents by now, they did teach us that in education classes. Maybe he was alseep in the that class or was up too late spanking whatever it was and slept through that semester?? Possibly?

lol! I was blog surfing today and came upon your blog! You are so hilarious!

I also write letters to people I would like to say things to...but don't or didn't...then I let it all out on a blog letter! It's great therapy!

Who is Hank?

Yeah, even if you don't send that letter to the teacher....you need to bring that up to the teacher in the next parent-teacher conference. I keep hearing a lot of excuses in the media about how how parents don't get involved....well, when they want to be involved, the teachers better jump on that.

Ummm, if Hank was perhaps named Ben and he spanked a little girl he would promptly be marched down to the principals office and taught all about sexual harrassment before his parents are contacted. Don't ask how we know that.

And yes Mr. Essie's teacher needs to step up the game a bit.

Interesting class Gert must be taking. What comes after spanking lessons, choking?

Hank better be careful! He may get in some serious trouble one of these days!

Your comments to Essie's teacher are right on target. I would never have answered a parent's email that way even in my first year of teaching. Not that it makes him a horrible teacher, but you're right, he needs to step it up.

Hank spank...it rhymes, you know! I wonder what that was all about?? But it's funny. And as for Essie's teacher - I totally agree. I love working with teachers who care and actually answer MY emails! Many times, I emailed teachers about kids that I work with and never hear anything. I hope Mr. Essie's teacher will do better!

Hank spanked me? And Essie is doing well if he remembers correctly? Weird times.

What size shoe do I wear? A Size 5 1/2 of Mobile Phone Widowhood and a size 6 in the Computer Widowhood.

But that's Australian sizing! :)

I am kind of wondering too, why did she need to be spanked?

Is Hank a boy in the class?

And is your daughter at the same school that Debbie sends her kids to? Sounds like those two teachers might be a match made in heaven...

Spanking??? WTF??? Who is Hank?

Heather said...

Yeah, Hank needs a trip out behind the woodshed for a real spanking. Hands off, buddy!!

Ooooh! Perhaps Hank is your future son-in-law!!

Teaching is a wonderful, much needed, important profession, but not the hardest! I have found that the people I know personally that are teachers totally lose it in the beginning of the year because of all the STRESS! Didn't they just have the WHOLE summer OFF?!!!

Keep on top of those teachers!!

Artichoke dip and now this. Teachers. Oh Lizzie..how I love thee....and I too busted out laughing when I read "spanking myself." oH that was a good one! Yes indeed!

Thanks for visitng Idaho today. I love you and your blogs and your comments that I see around. I had to laugh at your post the other day about your little baby missing. We had the same thing happen to us; our girls had gone and slept under the stairwell. HEART ATTACK!! Best of luck with Gert's class and teacher.

Hank: run boy run. Consider this friendly advice at this point.

And yes, teacher needs a reality check if you haven't already sent that to him. Good grief.

It's time to give Hank the beat down! #2 came home yesterday and said that "M" in her class was trying to kiss her and hold her hand and Mrs. D made him turn his card because he wouldn't stop. Hubby was ready to come to school today and give the beat down!!
