My sweet Kris started the night with a favorite "The Way You Look Tonight" which I always associate with Father of the Bride which is such a great movie... "Oh, I assumed you'd be waring a blaack tuxatho." "This is a black tuxatho" "Oh I don't tink so babe, dat tux is naavy blue" "What are you talking about, Armani doesn't make a blue tuxedo" "Armani don't also make polyester"
Sorry... I digress.... Kris did a wonderful job. There was one falsetto note that was a smidge off (see - I can be objective about my favorite), but then he rocked it out a little in the middle and that was a nice switch. I think he had a solid performance. Randy, Kara and Paula all adored it (probably even more than I did) but Simon thought Kris was.... wet.....

Allison comes out in.... a black dress. Seriously... I love this girl but surely there's more to life than black and red. Little rocker chick cliche'. She sings "Someone to Watch Over Me"... and I have to say, I've been middle of the road about Allison, but she did a GREAT job... she used the husky voice but restrained it and made it work for the soft ballad. Impressive. Again Randy, Kara and Paula love her and Simon says it was good but she lacks ego.

Here's my side note for tonight...

Matt.... blah.... singing "My Funny Valentine".... and he's NOT playing the piano. Humph... he should have. He pulls it pretty straight... but I just wasn't feeling it. He had some pitch problems... he hit a lovely last note but then slipped up to his weak falsetto... eh. Randy agreed with me. Which doesn't say much for me does it? Kara agrees with us. Paula loves him (she's back to being sunshine in a can for everyone) and then.. Simon agrees with Paula. Seriously. Whatever.

Danny is singing Come Rain or Come Shine - I gotta tell ya... he's no Kris, but he did a good job. Honestly, I would call it his best performance - it had tender moments but then he put some blues in it... I'm not big on the blues part... he overdid it a little for my tastes. It's okay to do a ballad and just ballad your way through the whole thing.
Speaking of Ballads - I want an Idol Power Ballad Night.
The judges all liked it and Simon agrees it was his best in weeks.

Ok... Adam's got the diva spot AGAIN... Adam has on a white suit. How do I do that? I have white paper... mmm... and he kinda looks like he should be wandering around in a layer of fog welcoming someone to the pearly gates in some 80's "Dead Again" kind of flick. And that's pretty much right on because AGAIN it's like Adam Lambert playing a character singing a song. He comes slinking down the stairs... and really... do you know Wicked... because this song sounded like it came STRAIGHT out of there... HEY - he ALMOST has a forked tongue. Hmmm.... and he yells and screetches and actually, goes a little flat on his last note. Of course all the judges liked it.

So there... the 5 is done. Who's going home? Matt maybe... I'm a little worried about Kris... I think his body of work is much better than any of them, but this week wasn't his best week. Then again, Allison is usually a bottom dweller... so... all that to say, who KNOWS!!!!!

First of all, Adam's song *was* originally from a Broadway show. So, yeah, maybe Sammy Davis, Jr. *did* cover it on an album in the 60s (he did, I looked it up) but it really wasn't that Rat Packy a tune.
For that matter, none of the songs were really Rat Packy. It was totally more "Cabaret/Standards" night, honestly. No one could bust out a little My Way? Volare? New York, New York? Humph!
But, that is quibbling, because overall, I did enjoy most of the show tonight. As always, I *big red puffy heart*ed Adam. I'm a Broadway baby, so of COURSE I love Adam, playing a character as he does each week or not - he can sing.
I was getting a little bored with how everyone did the "start soft, now bring it BIG with the band, now for the looooong flashy note finish" arrangements, and I really felt like Danny was trying to do his best Adam impression, though he did sound good. Reminded me of Joe Cocker lite.
Anyhow, I think it will be either Matt or Allison going home; I think Kris will be safe another week.
Love the drawings, as ever - stayed up late just to catch your post! :D *mwah*
I'm so over Adam. I wish he were the one going home, but I know that's not going to happen.
My bet is on Matt leaving tomorrow.
And I heart Kris too! He's so dreamy. Sigh.
First of all...I am so freakin' addicted to Idolatry. I have my entire family addicted. I have Madalyn coming home from school wanting to know if a new one is up yet. Well...Michael is not addicted because he couldn't give a rat's ass about AI. Hmmm...will that bring interesting searches to your blog?
Anyway...I am so in on this whole thing being a conspiracy. To the way that Adam's stage is set. To Simon telling Allison that she is going home. And why is she going home according to Simon? I have no idea. But I thought she was faboolas.
And I so do not put the Go in Gokey tonight...I love the bluesy/goseply thing he did.
I think that Matt will go home. Allison better not.
Thank you again for a great recap!! AI should totally hire you to be their official sharpie artist! ;-)
LOVE the invisivble white suited Adam. Hysterical!!! I'm with just about everyone else, I think it's Matt's turn to go home. Allison did her thing, Kris has a beautiful voice, Danny rocked the night (finally the Danny I loved was back) and Adam, I just heart Adam. But really, what was with the stage set up and lights and such? Do the performers have a say in all that? If so, he's definitly the top dog performer b/c he knows what he's doing. And if not, then yep, Kat's got it...it's a conspiracy.
I think Matt will go home. I loved Danny, Kris and of course, Adam! :O)
How has Adam gotten the end spot so many times???? And why does he always get the grand entrance and the lighting. It drives me insane!!
I'm so glad you do this! If I ever remembered that I own a tv, I might be tempted to turn it on for this. But alas, I don't. Remember, that is. But Simon saying someone doesn't have enough ego just cracked me up. Because didn't he get most of our shares of ego? :-)
Your drawings just crack me up. And Matt is going home... most definitely.
My money would be on Matt going home.
And, I think Paula practices her responses, too..........but not very well.
I feel so torn. They are all great this year...but I would have to say as far as relevance (which is Simon's big check mark of success) Danny is probably the least marketable.
I mean, look at Taylor Hicks...he and Danny are similar in style and posse...and I don't see him hitting the charts.
Adam is un-effin-real. I just don't like when he hits that high note and sticks his pointy tongue out...creepy. But he is a STAR!!
My wife hasn't been into Idol that much the last couple of seasons...it actually seems like there are talented people back on the show this season and we're missing it.

LOVE Adam. I thought Danny did well last night too. I am thinking Matt will go home.
You know, I think they all practice their responses ahead of time. They watch the rehearsals, so they must have some idea, right?
Still love the show!
I agree, Paula has written a set of responses. Crazy responses!
Good call on Matt going home! Was it just me or was Natalie Cole sort of sucky last night. I was excited to see her perform but I was disappointed.
Hey Lizzie, I'm attempting to re-enter the blog world!! I love, love, love how you are following Idol with your posts and incredibly cute drawings!!! Each Tuesday I give my "play by play" opinions for each Idol contestant on Facebook!! LOL!!
Ok, first, for the record... I CAN NOT STAND ADAM. It's like is playing dress up each week, acting out a part. And while that is perfect for Broadway... American Idol and Broadway??? Two completely different things. And, please tell me...what is the deal with that horrendous screeching???? Yeah... so Adam seriously makes me want to scratch my own eyeballs out. That's bad isn't it??
My absolute, 100% favorite is Kris!!! Now, THAT, my friends is pure, raw talent. Each week he totally "brings it"!! What I love most about him, is that he stays true to who he is each and every week. He puts his own special sound on each song, but he is still Kris. Amazing to me!! I big big puffy heart Kris :-)
I don't watch the show but, it's all over the news that Danny's from Milwaukee so, I am cheering for him:-)
You know, I don't watch Idol but I t hink I would if I thought it wouuld be half as funny as your reviews!
I don't watch American Idol...I know, I know but I loved last season and just haven't gotten into it this year..anyway, I digress....I love Father of the Bride...tuxedo scene?? Best ever! Could you email me the name and artist of the song that immediately comes up when your blog loads...I love it! I scrolled down to the bottom but I think it may be from a soundtrack? I love how it makes me feel and I musT know who it is! Please???
