American Idol... the Disco Years....

(Please say a prayer for Kat and her husband Michael today - he's having brain surgery this morning)

Oh do I have a TREAT for you tonight!!!

So, in order to get everyone in and judged, we're apparently doing away with all fluff. So we go right into Lil singing I'm Every Woman... and... I'm sorry, but... Lil needs to head on home. She was flat, and behind and despite her argument to the contrary, it was VERY copy-cat. And ... I'm not sure that skin tight Lycra is the right look for her. None of the judges are very sold.. in fact very not... and Lil looks PISSED.... and... I'm just over it all.

Now... your treat for the night is GUEST ARTISTS!!!!!!!! Gert & Essie are taking over the Sharpies tonight!!!

So here is Gert's rendering of Lil:

Kris... oh Kris... Kris has given us this ... almost Latin smooth slow version of She Works Hard for the Money. WOW... dangerous choice, but he's WORKING it. It's soft and beautiful and SO Kris. He's workin his guitar... joined with just a bass, a bongo and... some sort of board. And it's... another one I'll probably download. The judges WUB him as they should and I do. Kara says it was a big risk and it paid off. Ok... Paula says "Ok, a lot of women shop in the men's department, but not a lot of guys shop in the women's department and he shopped in the woman's and it worked for him." Which... totally makes sense... lots of girls cover guys songs... but not a lot of guys will cover ladies songs... and he did and it worked. Simon doesn't get it but... whatever. He says it was original and fantastic. Randy says that Kris knows who he is. And mentions though the crowd is yelling so it's hard to hear, that KRIS does his OWN arrangements. PLEASE remember that.

Here is Essie's "Kris"

Danny hops up to sing September. And it's pretty true to the original. And he does pretty well, typical Danny - good notes, strong/loud vocals. Singing at least... he still looks a little awkward dancing around the stage. Yeah... it was good, it was no Kris. Randy says he worked it. Kara says it was solid. Paula says he has one of the sexiest voices ever. Oh....kay. Simon says it was good but the performance was awkward. Yeah... i called that.

Hmmm... I just realized we got 2 Adam's and no Danny. Well... think short hair, glasses and a leather jacket. Okay... you got it.

Allison.... singing Hot Stuff - and holy cats - she's reclining on the stairs in a little bolero jacket and a black leather corset over.. chain mail?? and black leather leggings? Yep... that's our rocker chick. And she rocks the song, and sings it full blast like almost every week. Randy didn't love the arrangement (calling it over indulgent because he can't come up with his own phrases) but thinks shes amazing. Kara agrees. Paula says she doesn't compromise. Simon says she was an underdog but that it was a brilliant performance. Either Simon REALLY likes this group of kiddos or he's getting really soft in his old age.

Gert's vision of Allison:

Adam's channeling Elvis again - pompadour and black suit. And is singing "If I Can't Have You"... and it's slow and gentle and there's no nail polish and limited eyeliner. VERY slow and gentle... and then of course we get to the end and we still have screeching. Cause we can't not do that. The judges of course all wub him. And then... ADAM names the guy who helped him arrange it and gives him props... which is nice of him to do... but let's point out that KRIS plays multiple instruments AND arranges his own stuff. Yeah.... take that Senior Nail Polish.
First we have Essie's Adam:

And Gert's:

Matt has his hat on again, singing Stayin Alive... wearing worn jeans and a leather members only jacket and thin black tie. He's working it - pretty close to the original - a little behind on the words - and hits a KILLER note in the middle of the song... and then messes with the end and goes flat... bad way to end it. Randy didn't love the song choice, but says he can really sing... basically says the same thing he's said for the last 3 people. Kara says he brought the disco back. Paula says he picks songs like she bowls - some gutters, some strikes (ok... let's all take a moment and imagine Paula bowling..... mmmm yeah) but this was a strike. Simon doesn't like the performance.

Essie captured Matt QUITE nicely:

Anoop ends the night with Dim All The Lights - wearing a gray suit, pink sweater and stubble. So he lost the frat look... for the most part. Sort of... frat-boy-goes-to-church-with-granny-to-make-granny-happy-so-she'll-keep-giving-him-money. He (or someone) has removed the disco but still kept it pretty up tempo. He really does have a wonderful strong clear voice. A little warbly at the end but good. Awww.. he knows it too... cutie. And Randy... jeez... just say ditto dawg and save the time. Kara said the vocals were great. Paula says he looks great and real men know how to wear pink. Simon... says it was a horrible version of the song and says it was Anoop's worst performance. Um... HELLO??? Simon apparently has Alzheimer's and has forgotten Beat It???
Here's how Gert saw Anoop....

So there's your night.... 2 going home tomorrow - I say Matt & Lil.

And to end our Guest Artist's Post with a bang.... 2 versions of..... Me.

Gert's Mommy Portrait:

And Essies - and it says "My mom is the nicest sometimes mom in the whole world sometimes"... the qualifiers are because she messed up last night and now we're not going to Hannah Montana until Sunday and she's a little mad at me.

Awesome guest artists! I'm sounding repetitive but I love your recaps!

I'm watching right now ... so far, you're right on target. And your guest artists are awesome!

Good job, start them off early in life with the sharpie drawings. :) I LOVE the "sometimes the nicest mom" bit. Hilarious!

Hey now, Adam was AWESOME last night! I was worried after Play That Funky Music that he'd go camp, but I think he did a beautiful version of that song.

And frankly, Kris seemed a little too "LOOK AT ME I CAN DAVID COOKIFY THIS SONG UP WOO" although he did do a nice job. I just don't feel the love for him, not the way I do for Adam.

I *wish* Matt would go home but I have a feeling that it will be Lil and Anoop tonight. That's my early prediction anyhow - haven't put in my picks for my pool yet though!

Kudos to the ladies for doing an excellent job with the illustrations! :D

Great artist renditions! This almost makes up for the fact that Comcast screwed me over yesterday and I missed all my tv shows last night and my DVR had nothing to tape. Soooo, the update this week was crucial for my catching up. Thanks for your public service! xoxo

I love the girls' drawings. I bet they liked helping out, too!!

So, it is time for Lil to go home. Also, Matt should go home as punishment for wasting the judges' save. I'm still in shock.

P.S. I love Adam :)

Well...save your prayers. Surgery has been rescheduled for Friday. At 5:30 am. AM! Ugh.

Anyway. Kris was amazing last night. Just amazing. I love what he did with the hooker song :-)

Lil soooo needs to go home. And I really hope that it's Matt too and not Anoop. I'll be ticked if he gets to stay another week.

I was digging Kris!

Very nice recap, however in Essie's pic of Adam, I don't really remember him wearing a belly shirt last night. Hmmm, maybe I missed something.

the girls did a great recap -

....but you are only sometimes the greatest?/

Those are great artistic renderings of Idol. Give the girls props. And the more I watch the more I see that Randy doesn't have a plethora of creative words. He just chooses to fill the time with yo, dawg, I wasn't likin' it for me you, so a'ight...weird.

I look forward to this every week. You rock (sometimes). Totally kidding...all the time.

Based purely on the drawings, Adam is my pick. He has the American Idol - stick figure edition - image nailed.

I lucked up - my Mom to the kids to see Hannah Montanna and I didn't have to! Woo Hoo! From what I hear, Essie and Gert are going to love it!

Absolutely LOVE the artists' renderings! The trouble with the Idolettes, as a group, anyway, is that they're so dang young that when they do pop music like Disco, they don't remember it, so they don't "get" it. Of course, I'm not sure how much of Disco there is to "get," but I think if they were more aware of the genre/songs, they'd do a little better.

i've been really impressed with Kris for the last few episodes; he has turned himself into a real contender

Do you think The Girls would be interested in illustrating an Sx3 for me? I think they have their Mommy's sense of humor, don't you? BTW: Please come on over and contribute some Caption Love to today's Sx3. This Superior Snap is right up your alley, humor-wise!
