How do you do that???

Okay pooh-pooh bears. A bunch of you want to know how to find out what search terms people are hitting your blog with.

I'm gonna go high level here, and if you have trouble, let me know and I'll get more specific....

Go to google, type in google analytics.

Or just go here

See where it says "new to google analytics, sign up now"... do that....

Pretty much you just follow the directions... when it says to paste the stuff into your blog, just to go layout and edit the HTML (don't worry - if you haven't done that before it sounds scary but it will be okay)... what I do is do cntl-f and then type in body to find the area they're talking about on Google where you need to add the code.

Once you've added the code, then you log into google analytics, on the website profiles, click the link under "view reports", then on the left hand side click "traffic sources" and then click "keywords" and VOILA - well... not really Voila because at first you won't have anything, because it just started tracking. Wait a few days and stuff will start coming in.

IF you already have a tracker/counter thing, most of them have a keyword area... though I think not all do.

Seriously - if you have questions ask and I would love to help you out. But I have 2 minutes left on my lunch hour right now so I need to spell check this puppy so you have a snow-balls chance in you know where of actually reading it!!!

I have not used google analytics. I used to have sitemeter. But took it off when explorer had a glitch with it. I have this ability to become rather obsessed with my stats, so I think it's a good idea that it's gone...

Thanks!!!

Of course, Petra, the wise young mommy, emailed me with the same info already!

But it's helpful, nonetheless!!!!!!

Yeah. We definitely need you in the White House. Could you hook one of these Google Analytics thingys on Wall Street to monitor any bad practices that will hurt our economy?

I use statcounter and that works pretty well. Some of the search terms people use are hilarious! Thansk for all of your support when the migraine came on for me...it made me smile to see you rooting for me! :) Thanks friend!

You rock, Lizzy! I use statcounter, but haven't seen the search terms people are using. Always good to have one more way to look at traffic, I say! :-)

So I am a bigger technological dunce than I even realized. I can't find the body to paste in the code (when I do control-f and type in body it says it's not found. And I already have sitemeter (the free version, I don't know if that makes a difference) and can't find anything about search terms.

I am ready to concede that it must not be meant to be for me to learn what search terms lead people to my blog. (That's what I do when I try and fail to do something.)
