Gert the Great

Miss Gert is in her second month of Kindergarten. She's just a sponge and constantly asking what words start with what letters. And she LOVES to draw.

Tonight I came home from work and she got out paper and pen and asked me what she should draw. I suggested a Giraffe. She said okay, and then headed off to draw.

A few minutes later, she brought me this:

And said "Mommy, is that how you spell Giraffe?" Now, we all know that's not the correct way. But I think we can all agree that that's a DANG good guess for a Kindergartner! (It's GRIF in case you can't read it)

I'm proud of my Gert.

I love when the do this. I have a book my daughter made in K with all of the words phonetically spelled. I love it.

What a great job. English is such a strange language. I don't know how people learn it as a second language. The spelling alone is so very bizarre. Or is it bizzare?

And the picture! Again, wow! My ability to draw is so very pathetic.

LOVE it!! I knew it was a giraffe before reading what you wrote. :)

Heck Giraffe is hard for me to spell. She can draw one better than I can too. You got a smart one there! Give her an extra hug from me please.

You SHOULD be proud of her...that is great! Both the drawing and the spelling. My kids' teachers told us NOT to correct their phonetic spelling when they were this age; they focus on spelling in the third grade. Heck, these days of text messaging, no one is gonna be able to spell before too long. LOL, TTYL, LMAO!

Great job, Gert! I wish Miss P (also in K) would try to spell any word she doesn't know on her own instead of making me spell it for her. I have passed down the perfectionist genes.

That is to cute! I love that age. I so glad I have one more that I can teach at home. My other two went to pre-k and Kind. at public school and I taught pre-k and kind. I loved doing all the little activities and watching them grow. Can't wait to do all that with Aden. Thanks for sharing -- tell her I love her picture. Much Love
