Have you seen Fiddler on the Roof? I haven't in years, but I remember seeing it when I was younger, and one line, in one song in the WHOLE musical struck home with me more than almost anything, ever. "There would be one long staircase just going up and one even longer coming down." From the moment ard that song, the house of my dreams had 2 staircases...

there was this house in Tucson that Dh and I fell in love with...it had 2 staircases, and I remember thinking how cool that was...how very "wealthy" it felt because it was not necessary to have 2 staircases.
now...oh now I can see the NEED for 2! LOL But, alas, we have one. :)
btw..still can't wait to get my hands on painting that home!
Yeah, that was a totally southern thing in the early 90's when we lived in the south. And only for the rich. It was a status symbol- one staircase for the family and one for the help- whether they had help or not. Now I see it more and more in the PNW. We actually have 2- but they go to different areas of the house. One goes to the bedrooms above the main house and one goes to the family room above the garage. I guess that makes me a rich man.
Sweeping one set of stairs is more than enough for me. Rich or not:)

My mom had that soundtrack album--love it! And, you won't believe this...our rather modest split entry house actually HAS two staircases! I suppose since one is split at the front door, and one goes straight down, it almost looks like the straight one is longer. Wow--I had never put that together with the song. I knew I was blessed, but I really had no idea! ;-)
Ok so obviously we need to have a wallpaper removal/ paint party. Two staircases niiiicccee.
My house has no stairs... You now know how much money I have.
My house only as outside stairs, which makes bringing groceries in a pain in my tushy.
LOVE staircases (but not cleaning them). I always wanted the big foyer staircase that split into a Y at the top. Taking you to two different wings...ahhhh...how fun.
That's so funny, because that is how I have always thought of having "it" is when the house has TWO staircases! I don't know why...I guess all those sitcomes where they always had 2 sets of staircases you know..."Family Ties", 'Dif'rent Strokes", "Cosby Show",

A friend of mine that lives in New Orleans used to live in a beautiful old Garden District mansion that had a grand staircase and a back(servants) staircase. I LOVED that house and the whole two staircase thing totally captivated me.
Someday.
My best friend has two staircases in her house...so does my mom's neighbor. I'm OK with only one. :)

One set of stairs is enough for me... 'specially when I'm lugging bags of groceries up from the car to the kitchen!
(note to self: next house, the garage and kitchen will be on the same level!)
And, yes... I have seen FotR. Even dragged (drug?) Shane to see it with me. Of course, this was before we were married. Now, I don't think I could get him to go with me to see any musical.
