Do You Know What Today Is?

Anyone? Anyone?

I didn't, until last night, when I was informed by Miss Essie that today is Elvis's birthday (HEY - you teacher types that read this blog - is that how you would write that? Or is it Elvis' birthday?) At any rate, if you don't know by now, Miss Essie ADORES Elvis... A.D.O.R.E.S. Elvis. She got LOTS of Elvis stuff for Christmas and is just in HOG HEAVEN over it.

So, in honor of that adoration, I give you, the Birthday Boy:

He IS a pretty good looking guy.

Tonight we are having a birthday party for Elvis. I'm sure Essie will gladly don her Elvis costume, and we're making a cake. The cake... well... we'll leave that for tomorrow's blog. And we'll probably watch Blue Hawaii, or Viva Las Vegas, or whichever of the 12 Elvis movies we have.

So, Mr. Presley, where ever you are (Bora Bora? Memphis? Vegas? Sheboygan?) we wish you a very Happy Birthday.

Now, I've heard you get more comments when you ask a question, and I admit, I like comments so... here goes. Do you think Elvis is dead or alive? Are you a fan? Who was your first "celebrity crush"? Would you wear a white jumpsuit? Would you wear a white jumpsuit after Labor Day?

I'm not a teacher type LOL

but I was always taught Elvis' Birthday :)
but you don't want to take grammar advice from me ROFL

You know I used to have these dreams about Jim Morrison but never Elvis my Ex sister in law claimed to be a psychic she thoguht he was alive because she could not sense him *shrug* I never belived her but she was a nice person so I just nodded my head and pretended to be interested in it LOL

always been a fan of Elvis

although I remember my mother not being happy with me when he died because I mentions something about him being an old guy ROFL

didn't understand that for years :)

Devin is working on a project at school where he had to pick someone he could talk to that had died and he picked Elvis and asked him how he learned to do that thing with his voice LOL

I used to work as a landscaper and the uniform we wore was a white jumpsuit, which is stupid because it was always dirty.

I really look forward to reading your blog :)

I know you like comments

hope you don't mind ridiculously long comments with bad grammar I'm trying to avoid cleaning ROFL

Happy Birthday to Miss Essie's Main Man!

Never was an Elvis fan although this is this great Elvis slot machine at our little gambling town that I love. My first celebrity crush? *gulp* Michael Jackson, the Thriller era. And yes, I wear white all the time! I like to break the rules. LOL

Elvis is definitely dead. He'd have shown his face at some point if he were still on earth.
I was madly in love with Elvis as a child. My sister and I would play records and pretend we were dancing with him. One that sticks in my head was the music from "Harem Scarem".
I was also in love (but not madly) with Hoss from Bonanza. Everyone was in love with "Little Joe", so I picked Hoss just so someone would be in love with him. I was a softy like that.
The only time I wore a white jumpsuit -ahem- was when I lost in a strip poker game -ahem- and the nice hippie dude who had the most beautiful long hair and made pottery for a living gave it to me when we couldn't locate my clothes.I was 17....oh that brings back memories....

I hope he's alive and well somewhere : )

Happy Birthay!!

OK, I AM a teacher-type. The short answer is that it's optional whether to use an extra s when making a word that ends in "s" possessive. Strunk and White says do it, plus that's how I say "Elvis's" so that's what I'd do.

Elvis is definitely dead and I do like his music (I have the #1s on my iPod). I had no idea who he was when I was a tween, though; my first celebrity crush was Ralph Macchio, the Karate Kid. And no, I would not wear a white jumpsuit any time!

Im gonna say Elvis is D-E-A-D. Yep.

I like elvis, but I was never a "fan" i guess

Happy Birthday, Elvis ...where ever you are :-)

I tyhink he's dead ... though, he tends to pop up, in his many incarnations (did I spell that right?), around these parts. Not as many times as in Lost Wages, mind you.

Yes, I'm a fan .... then eyes, they get me everytime..

Presently I have this huge crush on Johnny Depp. In the Olden Days, along with Elvis, I also had a crush on Cliff Richard..

Me wear a white jumpsuit ...BAHHHAHHHHAHHH..

A marshamallow comes to mind :-)

I would say he's dead. I've been to Graceland, you need to take Essie there some day. My kids loved it and they have no clue (much) who he even was. The place is awesome :)

not an Elvis fan but I do think he is still alive living on a secret island with Princess Diana in total peace.

Oh Elvis .. Happy Birthday. I promise that for today I will refrain from singing In The Ghetto, in my horrible impression of you .. because we both know I do it just because I think it's the corniest song ever. Instead, I'll sing Love Me Tender, because I honestly love that one.

Lizzy, have you ever read the book Odd Thomas, by Dean Koontz? Well, I have to believe Thomas on this one .. that Elvis used to live in Pico Mundo.

I can't wait to see the cake!

I didn't know it was Elvis' birthday until you told me last night. And I love that you are going to have cake. I can't wait to see it.

I love questions :-)

I think he's alive. Cause I LOVE a conspiracy theory. Have you read Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series? She says Elvis is a stupid vampire.

I've never been a fan. Though I really want to go to Graceland. And renew my vows with him officiating. Why? I have no idea.

First celebrity crush - Adam Ant.

I would never wear a jumpsuit at all. And especially not a white one. Any time.

Happy Birthday to the King.

That's so fun you're having a party for him.

My first crush was Luke Skywalker as well (I saw georgie's comment and laughed).

And I'd have to say that on any given day I WOULD NOT wear a white jumpsuit.

Lesley said...

Izzy, great minds think alike! I paid homeage to "The King" on my blog too!!

Am I an Elvis fan?!?! OF COURSE!!

First celebrity crush? Hmmmmmm I'd have to say Elvis since he is the first celebrity I remember knowing about and I still have a crush on him today, LOL!

Unfortunately, I think he really is dead. And, if he isn't, and he went through ALL OF THAT TROUBLE to convince the world that he did die, then we should leave him to live in peace.

I have been to Graceland several times and we are planning to go back (SOON!) when we visit my hubby's family. They live about 15-20 minutes away :-)

Lesley said...

Oh yeah, and just to let you know... as a little girl, it was my DREAM to be one of Elvis' backup singers!!!!!! I would get my toy microphone and sing my little heart out to his songs.

I was crushed... devestated when he died. We were actually IN Memphis at the time. We came so close to going to his wake, but my mom changed her mind because that isn't how she wanted to remember him. Man, now I feel like crying :-(

Ashley said...

White jumpsuit after labor day? Heeeck No! Haha! :)

You should eat some peanut butter and banana sandwiches to celebrate. What a fun night!

Lesley said...

Dang it... on my first comment I just noticed that I made a BIG ole typo! The L in your name is missing!! uggghhhhhh

I meant, LIZZY...not Izzy! My fingers need help today :-)

Not a big Elvis fan here. But "young" Elvis was pretty cute.

I think my 1st celebrity crush was Joey McIntyre... from New Kids on the Block.

Yeah, I'm a dork.

I actually went to an Elvis concert, can you believe it?!

Of course, I was in utero, but my mom said I danced around in there the entire concert.

Also, Elvis was my first love. My parents had an Elvis head that was filled with whiskey (that I now own). I used to practice kissing his cold marble lips. Weird, I know.

Hmm...practicing for Edward, maybe?

White jumpsuit? Um, no thanks.

Have fun at your party!

Happy Birthday Elvis! Hope you guys have a great time celebrating!

My first crush believe it or not was Richie Valens....oh that movie La Bamba did it for me!

I'm sure someone has written by now, but I "jump[ed] to comment form" so I did not read all the responses.

I am an English teacher. Either way is technically correct, but it's better to write Elvis's.

Yes, he's dead, and no, I've never been a fan!

Frizzy said...

A guy I went to HS with is an Elvis impersonater in Vegas. I'll have to send him to your blog to let him know what y'all are doing in honor of his "creator" if you will.

Quirky said...

I would respond even without a question... but since you asked :)
1. He's dead... maybe he wasn't at first, but he's gotta be dead now.
2. Not the biggest fan... but not opposed either. Personally Elvis's role in Forrest Gump was my fav :)
3. My first celeb crush... I have no idea!!
4. Absa-freaking-lutely!

I think how you are celebrating Elvis's birthday is so great! I love this idea!!

Wherever Elvis is....I hope he is happier there than he was here.

My first celebrity crush was Bo Duke on the Dukes of Hazzard when I was little. Now I realize he had no butt....what was I thinking?

No, I would not wear the white jumpsuit....before or after labor day...

Have fun celebrating tonight....Elvis would probably love the fact that little girls still love him.....and yes, he was a very good looking man!

You know, I've just never been much of an Elvis "fan" though I like most of his music. I would say I was too young when he was popular, but Essie might have something to say to that. Heh.

He's one of those people that I'm just sad for. You could tell he was rarely ever at peace with himself, that just makes me sad. That's no way to live.

I've been to Graceland but I was so young I don't remember it.

Of course he's dead. Well, technically he's more alive than we are, but you know what I mean. :P

And you are smoking something very, very strong if you think I would ever wear a jumpsuit of any color.

Spirit of Ashes said...

Oh, I forgot first crush. Geez, by the time I was in fifth grade I had poster upon poster taped to my wall, so it's hard to say. I remember really liking some wrestler - can't remember his name - that did a wrestling video to Freeze Frame. Also, Don Johnson was a big hit in my house.

The Nice One said...

Could you imagine a 74 year old Elvis?

I wouldn't wear the jumpsuit because my front fanny wouldn't look so cute in it.

My first celebrity crush was Chad Allen. My second was Neil Patrick Harris. Both of them don't like girls. Wonder what that says about me?

Elvis is dead, dude. I remember when he died. Ok, I remember being in the furniture store and everybody going quiet and the owner turning the radio up and women crying. I don't remember much else...

But he's dead. Hopefully we'll see him again one day. And he will sing "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and I'll ask him, "Why did you drag out the 'if' in the talking part...'I wonder iffffffffffffffffffffffffffff...you are lonesome tonight.'"

Amen.

Oh, first childhood crush? BO DUKE, baby.

I'm totally into that hunka hunka burnin' love, but...he's dead. Why on earth would he be alive cooped up in a hole somewhere?

EVERY and I mean EVERY marathon I run, I always see a running Elvis. One time, there was even a pack of running Elvi...teacher types...is that the correct plural?

debi9kids said...

LOL Funny that she is in love with Elvis! And, LOVE that you made a cake to celebrate! You rock!!!

I definitely think he died and I am 100% certain I would NEVER ever wear a jumpsuit! LOL

PS I think we "met" through Friday Foto Fiesta :)

Unfortunately, I am fromt he school of thought that thinks Elvis is dead. My mom's frist celebrity crush was Elvis and mine was Luke Duke:-)

Let's see here: Dead. Not really, but he was cool. Michael J. Fox, so dreamy. Not if my life depended on it. :)

I did know it was Elvis' 74th birthday, but of course, I live in Mississippi! It is on every major television station! Ha!

I wish I had known that you were making cake. I would have sent you my recipe for Elvis Presley cake.

I think he is dead. I liked Shaun Cassidy and Prince. No white jump suit for me ever!

Gramma 2 Many said...

DEAD, DEAD, DEAD. I enjoy his early music, did not like his movies and cannot call myself a fan. I do not think I would make a detour to go visit his shrine if I were in the vicinity.
Can you imagine a 62 year old gramma in a rhinestone white jumpsuit? That is just too much for me so I guess I would not.

I did not know that, but I'm sure my best friend did, she's a crazed Elvis fan. My 7 year old Princess is a huge fan too!

No white jumpsuit, no thanks! I find it funny that it's the white julpsuit that's become the iconic Elvis costume, when really ...? I'd like to think his performance that night wasn't representative of his career.

You crack me up. As a former English teacher (you wouldn't know it from my writing...), either is OK (Elvis' or Elvis's). We were mostly taught at kids that if it ends in "s", and you need to assign owner ship (xxx's car, xxx's pencil, etc), to not put an 's. BUT! Grammar books will tell you it is OK.

After all that rambling--I also have to say, I gave you an award. I don't know if you're an award person or not, but I wanted to tell you that I think your blog is pretty awesome (though I don't leave comments very often--how bad is that! Someone will take away my SITS card soon, I know it...).

OK I will admit but do NOT tell Essie, I do not and never have liked Elvis, dead or alive. Sorry!
First crush, don't laugh, Steve Cauthen-jockey (horse). Am I weird or what!!

Good one, is it Elvis' or Elvis's ... beats the crap out of me. I sure regret naming a kid of mine TRAVIS because I never get it right. Plus I can't just skip and use his entire name. It would have been cool if I could because then I would say "put this on Travis Lee's plate" or whatever. But not me. I named him ....

wait for it ...

Travis James.

Duh, I am such a moron!
