Really... I have NOTHING... or... nothing that you would find entertaining or that wouldn't scare the be-jesus out of you.
So I'll just ask questions, and you'll answer them, and then something will come to me at some point and I'll have something to blog about.
OH - I can tell you about last night. Essie pretty much made the cake, we put it in the oven, made our peanut butter & banana sandwiches and ate them with our milk in fancy glasses like we imagined Elvis might drink milk out of, and then I swear I was blind-sided by the Sandman... I couldn't stay awake. We got the cake out of the oven and I told the ladies that I was just going to nap for a little bit while the cake cooled and then we'd frost it. A couple minutes later, or so I thought, Gert poked me and said "Mommy, come have cake." Looking at the clock on the DVR, I discovered it was now 9 pm. I'd been asleep for almost 2 hours. Essie dragged me into the kitchen, and there was the cake, frosted and already cut and ready to serve. And let me tell you Essie did a FABULOUS job frosting it - just a nice thin even layer, and the cutting job was really done well too. I was quite proud of my girl!!! We each grabbed a piece and sang a little Happy Birthday to Elvis. It was a fun night. I'm proud of my girls.
Apparently questions DO work so here's some more. What was the first thing you learned to cook? What kind of chores do you kids do? (And how old are they) Do you enjoy times when the tv never gets turned on. Do you have secrets that almost NO ONE knows about?
There... that should keep you busy for a while :)

That cake sounds as though it was very good. So did you take a photo of it???
First thing I learned to cook, was how to poach an egg..
I suspect my kids do plenty of chores, as they all have homes of their own now :-)
My kids are now 35, 32 and 30 ..EEEEEKKKK
Yes, I love the times that the TV is not turned on..
Yes, I guess I have secrets.. :-)
I cannot believe you didn't post a pic of the cake!
I am suffering from blogger's block, too. I've got one post in mind and then... nothing.
My girls are 5 and 7 (soon to be 6 and 8... both have birthdays next month). The chores they must do are to clean their rooms, make their beds and to clean their bathroom. But they are also to help with other things as I ask them... fold socks/towels, put their clean laundry away, help unload the dishwasher, etc.
I think the first thing I learned to make was probably Kraft mac & cheese.
I do love my TV... but I really just watch it in the evenings. It's rarely on during the day.
Secrets? Me? I don't have secrets....
Mmmmm...cake!
I cannot wait to see the drawing of the cake ROFL
First thing I learned to cook I think was eggs and toast
I use4d to have a very strict chore list, but have not really enforced it in awhile...I need to get back into routine the holidays alwasy mess me up :)
so normally the boy (10) cleans his room and makes his bed, he washes the dishes (loads and unloads the dishwasher) sorts the recycling and takes out the trash
the girls work as a team, they set the table and clean up the toys....I need to give Moo (3) a few more things, but I am not sure if Messy (6 autistic) can handle more :(
I LOVE LOVE LOVE when the tv is off, especially in the morning before everyone gets up I like to sit by the window and watch the birds at the feeders and just be quiet and pray :)
mostly I'm an open book... or I am jsut a blabbermouth :)
but I probably have a few secrets
Good job on the cake Essie!! Yummy.
Hmmm
The first thing I learned to cook was goulash.
My kids had chores such as taking the garbage out, making their beds EVERY DAY, and folding laundry. Oh, and dusting. They are all grown now,and the boys probably don't do any of the above anymore...
I love times of no TV. Silence is golden. I even drive to work sometimes with no music.
I have secrets that NO ONE knows about. Seriously. And no, there are no regrets.
Have you ever read the blog Post Secrets?
I, too, am bummed there is no pic of the cake.
I ♥ Elvis, too. I've met his step-brother, Rick Stanley. He preached at a camp I went to in high school.
I first learned to cook scrambled eggs.
My oldest has chores and he is seven. He feeds the chickens and puts his laundry away. The girls, well, not so much yet. But now that Lauren is 5 we'll have to see.
Yes, I feel the house is much more peaceful when the TV never goes on.
I have a few secrets that almost no one knows about, and I may be revealing on by way of photo next week on my blog. Stay tuned.....
I have been SO hungry for cake.
Chores...hahahahaha, if my kids did them, I'd be thrilled, but seldom do they.
I don't know what the first thing was I learned to cook. I don't even remember, maybe eggs??
Great story... poor tired Mommy
My kids and stepkids do alot the younger two are 15 and the older to are 19. Mostly my younger son is with us. He does dishes every night, takes out recycling, does his own laundry and (mostly) keeps hisroom clean. Plus on weekends we all take different chores and clean the house (whoever is here).
Ok...I'll play!!
What was the first thing you learned to cook? I don't really remember but I do remember helping our babysitter make salsa. She used the stone and pestle thing and I thought it was the greatest thing ever!!
What kind of chores do you kids do? (And how old are they) I have an 18 year old who does nearly nothing unless I harp on him to do it. He does wash his own laundry without me telling him to do it but then it ends up in a pile on the guest bed until it gets worn again...grrrr!
Do you enjoy times when the tv never gets turned on? More than you can even imagine! I love being home alone on a Saturday just curled up on the couch reading.
Do you have secrets that almost NO ONE knows about? Absolutely!!! But if you get me liquored up, I might just tell you what it is!
I am such a trendsetter. Ha.
The first thing I ever cooked was a ham. I was 10. And a latch key child. I was told to put in the ham, so I did. No one mentioned that you have to take it out of the plastic.
Katie is 11 and is in charge of all the dishes - washes them, unloads/loads the dishwasher. Scooping the kitty litter.
Madalyn is 7 and in charge of taking out the garbage. She also has to sort the laundry from the girls laundry basket.
Both have to also keep up after themselves. That one doesn't work so well.
I would be happy to not have a tv.
I have secrets.
What was the first thing you learned to cook? SCRAMBLED EGGS
What kind of chores do you kids do? (And how old are they) 10 & 11; FOLD LAUNDRY, CLEAR & SET TABLE...
Do you enjoy times when the tv never gets turned on. ABSOLUTELY!
Do you have secrets that almost NO ONE knows about? AGAIN, ABSOLUTELY!
I first learned to make chocolate chip cookies...but didn't learn the difference between TBS and tsp. I but in a TBS of salt. Gross.
Cooking - geez, I've been cooking since I was about 5 (for real cooking, not boxed stuff LOL). I don't remember what the first thing I ever learned to cook was. I do remember getting up one Saturday morning to bake biscuits, and I got too much buttermilk in them or something to where the dough didn't turn out at all, so I went and woke my mom up and she fixed it by turning them into cinnamon rolls. I made sure to accidentally on purpose mess up the biscuit dough every once in a while after that. Heh.
Chores - Dana has to feed the animals every day and make sure their water is full. Nate has to take out the trash (just to the truck, the trash can is down the hill) and take out the peelings to the compost pile. Jake helps me out around the house during the day (picking up, stuff like that). Also, when the living room is a complete mess I set the timer and make all three of them pick it up.
TV - well, since we turned off our satellite service back last spring and never have turned it back on, you figure it out. LOL.
Secrets - about the only secrets I have are....talents that only Will knows about. And no, I'm not going to tell you. :P
The first thing I learned to cook was Kraft Mac n Cheese (does that count). One time, in like 5th grade, my friend and I were making some after school. When I went to put the noodles in the strainer, I splashed some water (boiling water, of course) out of the pan on it landed on her BARE foot... OOPS.... 20+ years later and she still brings that one up..... : )
A b-day cake for Elvis. Fun. Gotta try that next year. Can't wait for my two little girls to bake on their own!
The first thing I remember making was peanut butter cookies. Although, that's pretty complex, so I'm sure there was some sort of learning curve!
My kids do everything. They do dishes, floors, toilets, garbage, etc. but never without nagging, and hardly ever cheerfully.
The only things they don't do is wash/dry/fold/hang laundry, and cook family meals. They all know how not to let themselves starve, though.
TV? In my bedroom- really inconvenient unless I'm folding laundry, or upstairs on the other end of the house in the family room. Also inconvenient. I have to make a concerted effort to watch TV
My Mom and I made cookies...M&M cookies to be exact!
My children are 29, 25 and 23 and they do lot's of chores I am sure as they no longer live with me! :(
I love the TV off as I read...I have a few things that I don't tell many but I have no secrets...
I could never keep a secret!
The first thing I learned to cook was (probably) chicken noodle soup)
Kids are 3 and 4. They clean their rooms, put their laundry away (dirty and clean), and put their dishes away.
They love love love helping in the kitchen. Tyey especially love being the "designated taste testers"
I have secrets. Some burn like poison, but I am not sharing them. That would hurt worse. (do not worry they are not illegal)
a soft boiled egg. My mom used to eat one every morning and she taught me how.
I am sure Elvis watched from above and smiled....
1. Toast.
2. My daughter clears the table.
3. I love it when we have things to do that keep us away from the TV.
4. I do have secrets:-)
I honestly can't remember the first thing I learned to cook. It was probably mac and cheese. Still a favorite. Secrets? Moi? Never.
How fun that you guys celebrated Elvis's birthday!!!
1. Mashed potatoes!!
2. i dont have little ones, but I started doing chores about 7, it started with picking up sticks outside before my dad mowed the lawn, and i picked up clothes, and cleaned my room. Then I ended up doing everything by about 10! (My parents worked an hour away so we helped out with the chores!)
3. I like both--TV and no TV
4. I can't really think about anything that I don't talk about with people...but Im sure there is something somewhere!
Um, you could tell me what the count down is for! Are you getting married?!!!!!!
Yeah, I really wanted to see a picture of the cake.
Why are you so tired? Have you taken any tests lately? You know the one I'm talking about...
+ or -
Hmmm?
That sounds like fun and Little Miss Essie sounds like a jewel!!
Let's see-the first thing I learned how to make was a cake from a kids cookbook that belonged to my older sister. It was called a "quickie cake". LOL I think it was called that because it was about half the size of a normal cake. My kids are 25, 23, and 20 so...LOL When they were younger the girls made their beds, dusted, folded clothes. My son mowed the yard and took out the trash. I love times when the TV never gets turned on. It seems the minute my husband walks in he thinks the TV has got to be on whether he is going to watch it or not!!! Oh and I have secrets!!! None to tell. :)
I can't remember the first thing I learned to cook. Maybe brownies from a mix? I am, after all, me, so it probably involved some form of chocolate.
Noah (4 in 4 days) picks up his toys, brings dishes to the kitchen, puts away some laundry. Whatever I tell him to do. He's a great helper. Addison (2) is still is destruction mode.
I love not having the TV on. It's off right now. Aaaahhh!
And of course I have secrets. Lots of them actually.
1. I think eggs were the first thing I learned to cook.
2. The kids have chores (but they are not very good at them)
3. I use to like TV but there doesn't seem to be much on anymore
4. Um I guess I have secrets but none come to mind.
You DIDN'T celebrate Elvis' b-day, did you? Sounds like fun!
OK, here goes with the answers:
1. Lasagna
2. Clean their rooms, put away their clothes, laundry, keep the bathroom tidy.
3. 21 & 18, so they'd better be neat!
4. Try to stay away from the Boob Tube as much as possible, so "Yes."
5. I'm not much of a secret-keeper. More of a secret teller!
Yes I have secrets NO one knows about..I had to answer that first because I liked that question.
As a child I had chores and I had to clean the TOILETS...yeppers and she made me use a rag and my HAND NO toilet bowl brush. She wanted my hands in there scrubbing. YUCK
NO my kids do not have chores right now...they are little still.
I would NOT have A TV at all and love the silence but that is not what the rest of the family thinks.
I have no idea what the first thing I learned to cook was. I always remember helping out in the kitchen with grandmothers and MOM.
1. I think I the first thing I learned how to make was scrambled eggs ... then pancakes. I used to wake up early on Saturday morning and surprise my parents with a pancake breakfast. Not sure why I always got such a kick outta doing that for them, but they always acted so thrilled about it. LOL
2. Chores ... I don't assigned them regular chores ... like they don't have a fixed schedule or anything - But if I ask them to do something, I want it done. I will admit, though, that most of the time they don't the job to my standard, so I end up doing it myself, anyway. Yeah. Even the teenagers.
3. I love no TV time!!! Usually no TV time is all day long. I never watch it during the day. I always have music on. The TV usually gets turned on around 5pm because Sully has to watch M.A.S.H. every week night.
4. I am the freakin' QUEEN of keeping secrets! I have secrets that I will take to my grave. I have other people's secrets that I will take to my grave. I am damn gooooood at secrets. *snort*
i love your header --- you've probably had it up for eons, but I'm just that quick.
what was the question?
oh, I have 'helpers' for our chores. Kitchen Helper learns to cook and set the table. Dog Helper learns to take care of the puppies (read: feed, let in/out, allow mommy to sit on couch and eat bonbons). Bathroom helper...you guessed it. Last week, my 4 year-old scrubbed the toilet and washed the mirrors. Not with the same cloth. And I insisted he wash his hands with soap and water when he was done.
That party for Elvis sounds so sweet. Hey, you got that new camera...no excuse for no photos, sleepyhead! :)
I don't remember my first thing I cooked....someone's goose probably...ha..just kidding (maybe not) ;) Anyway, probably chocolate chip cookies....at least that was my favorite thing to bake...still is.
Z doesn't do the chores yet..he creates them for me to do for now.
I love the tv...so I rarely like it off. But there are rare times. I cannot, however, sleep with the tv on.
Oh yes, there are secrets!
Okay, here's the 411 on chores around the TExan Household:
Pepp. Patty, Charlie Brown, and Linus all have chores on the "chore wheel" which I rotate. They do them every M-W-F. I also include myself in the rotation. Here are the jobs: clean off kids' bathroom counter top, empty trash cans, empty laundry baskets, and sweep under Kitchen table. That way, no one is always stuck with the same chore. Also, kids need to tidy room occasionally, but it must be 100% clean, like PERFECT, by SAturday morning or else no cartoons/video games/sugary cereal. That way, they know they have a few days to work up to it.
Since you asked.
