(First of all - this is just a random thing but I bought Essie new shoes last night - and they are a a women's size 9!!!! ACK!!!!)
Are you all ready for another Christmas story? This one doesn't involve a Christmas program though... sorry... I ran outta fuel for that fire.
It was a cold December evening. Essie had just turned 4, and Gert was just a little bean in my tummy. For SOME reason we found ourselves at Wal-Mart (BTW - Gert has renamed Wal-Mart, "Fart-Mart" and every time we go buy she says "ew... what's that SMELL?")
Essie was sitting in the cart, and I was just wandering through the store. All of a sudden Essie's eyes got HUGE... I turned to see what had caused it, and there was Santa. Not in his red suit, rather a plaid flannel shirt and worn blue overalls. But it was HIM. I turned to Essie and said "Is that who I THINK it is?" Eyes still wide with wonder, all she could do was nod. I said, "What do you think he's DOING here?" She kept her eyes trained on him, but whispered "Buying food for the elves." At that point we turned down an isle and Santa went the other direction. I asked her if she thought Santa brought the reindeer or drove, and she said she figured he drove to give the reindeer a rest.
As we continued to shop, we crossed paths with Santa several more times, and each time Essie just stared at him with wide-eyed-child-wonder.
We finally had what we needed and headed towards the front of the store to wait in line for 30 minutes to check out. As we got in a line, Santa was passing us again, only this time he stopped. And leaned over to Essie. And whispered...
"I'm keeping my eye on you..."
And he walked away.
Yes, Essie, there IS a Santa Claus.

Happy Minnesota Thursday
- Jennifer
I'm too sappy because yet again you've made me cry! I believe in Santa Claus!! This morning my 9 year old said to me, "mom, do you believe in Santa Claus?" I said, "I sure do." He whispered back, "Me too!" :)
I do believe ! I do believe!!
SUCH a cute story :)
Oh I LOVE that!! I love Santa posts! We saw him driving around town the other day, I thought the kids would fall out of the van trying to keep him in sight!!
Size 9, OMG!! Just coincidence, I just got back from buying a pair of cowboy boots. My foot is small, 6, so I bought the girl size 5 and literally paid half of what I would have paid for a woman's size, whew!!
Got to love Santa!
Yes, Essie, there is a Santa Claus has a much nicer ring to it than "Virginia." Indeed.
Yeah...I think something smells over at Fart Mart, too. Sounds like that Essie has her Mama's sense of humor!
You just gave me chills! Too cool!
Awwwwwww! What a cute story! Does she remember seeing Santa there?
That's awesome!
That's so cool!
Love "Fart-Mart".
Size 9? Yowzers...bigger than mine!
That's a great story:-)
I love it! We saw the best Santa at the airport one time. He gave the kids his card. Too cute.
I knew the story already. But it still gave me chills. I just love it. And I could "see" it as you told it.
And Katie is gonna catch up to her. She's in an 8 1/2 already...
First of all, that is absolutely the best thing I've read all day (and I've been procrastinating, so I've read A LOT today)!!! Warm fuzzies all over!!!
Secondly, is it ever possible to wait in line for LESS than 30 minutes at a WalMart? *sigh* That is the price we pay for paying low prices - minute after minute of our lives sucked away in line at WM! :P
I agree with what Heather said. What a wonderful experience for your daughter at FartMart. heeheehee of all places!
Son of a Gunderson!!! Lizzie...this could have been us.
Same thing-only 30 years ago. Santa Claus was shopping in Fred Meyer. He looked at her and winked...
My daughter will be 34 this Christmas day. She has never forgotten that encounter...
It's the very reason she tells her own littleones that she believes.
Absolutely priceless. For that dear man to reinforce her belief is wonderful. A great story.
Thanks for the tissue alert! That is just priceless and it hit me just right this morning and brought on the tears. It just brings back lots of sweet memories.
Aw! What a sweet Santa :)
We went to Wal-Mart a couple weeks ago and my daughter saw Santa parked in a handi-cap spot. She said, "Oh, Santa took his blue van to Wal-Mart and he parked in the hurt people spot. Well he's probably allowed because he's Santa, right?? I hope he doesn't go to jail..."
Haha!
So cute! Does she remember this? Wow!!
BTW, my tween is now in the same size as me, sometimes a 7 1/2, sometimes an 8. Holy moly!
OH my goodness, I wear a size 9 shoe! My almost 12 yr old is in about an 8.
Cute santa story, we are just about 'over' the Santa thing at our house....Sad they have to grow up :(
That is great!
I'm amazed about the size 9 shoes--I wear a 6! Of course I'm short.
that is awesome. He needs to tell that to Hayden too.
LOVE the story!!!
