I've Become An Old Lady

First of all, I want to thank those who have and who are serving our country for fighting for my freedoms. I love this country and I am so grateful for those who have laid down their lives so that I can sit here and say almost anything I want. There are millions of people in the world who do not have that freedom.
Now a smallish rant.

I'm a pretty patriotic person. My grandpa was in WWII and really instilled a sense of patriotism in all his kids and grandkids. I especially remember helping him raise and lower the flag at his island every morning and evening. The care he took, the way he followed the flag code. He taught me respect for our flag, and respect for our country, and respect for those who serve it.

Last night I was watching tv, and a Macy's ad came on. It said something to the effect of "This Veteran's Day, we want to salute low prices."

Wow. Did that ever hit me WRONG.

SERIOUSLY??? The day we set aside to salute those who have gone through LIVING HELL to protect our freedoms, we're going to say "Nah.... forget the veterans... let's salute low prices"

Am I an 80-year-old crabby lady, or do I have a point? Does that rub anyone else the wrong way?????

(Sorry about the cheesy music, but despite it's corniness, i do love this song)

I'm with ya sista'! Pile this Ozarks farm chick on the eighty year old lady haywagon too 'cause I'm hitching on your rant. Retailers will commercialize on anything to move a product and up sales. I is just not right. I want to thank all the soldiers and and families who serve so we can enjoying living in this blessed land of freedom.

This chick was just a little ticked while grocery shoppin' yesterday as the Christmas carols played. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, I am a Christmas nut but please let us enjoy our seasons as they come.

Ya'll have a wonderfully blessed day and thanks for lettin' a girl vent!!!

Beautiful post! Thank you for honoring our veterans. My husband is a Vet and it means the world to him. His career with the US Air Force is one he will always be proud of and miss. I salute your family of Veterans too.

On a side note, I appreciated your comment on my blog. It made me laugh as your reflection really put things in perspective. Thank you.

I agree with you! People these days think Veteran's Day is for hot sales or just another day off instead of what it was really intended for. And I think it's almost worse when we are at war, and people still don't remember why we celebrate today.

Macy's can SUCK it!

That.absolutly.sucks!
They should fire their ad agency!!

I'm totally with you! Not cool at all. I would expect that sort of thing from Wal-mart, but I generally think of Macy's as being just a bit classier. For shame.

yeah that is a little crass.

You know also what I find a crock about Veterans Day. Everyone is off, Schools are out, Federal Employess are off but MY Husband a Solider is working...why? because a unit is getting ready to deploy to Iraq. They very guys we are Honoring are not even OFF of work. How are they getting Honored if they are working hard and getting ready to leave their families once again for another tour of duty....does that make sense? Can I join you OLD LADY CLUB? BUT can we call it ..Women of a Certain Age Club...teehhee? (like that new show Men of a Certain Age.

O sorry I got long winded once again!

Hope you are having a great Day!

Amen sisiter! I totally agree. If more people were to fly an America Flag rather than have dollar signs in their eyes than this country would be a better place.

Hey I love this song.

...And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me...

It really gets me when they come in with the battle snares toward the end. *sniff*

And yeah, totally with you on the Macy's rant. That's just wrong.

(BTW, I watched The Patriot from my sickbed yesterday. And thought of you.)
