Like a Lady of Leisure

So... if you follow me on Facebook you know I'm unemployed again. Yeah. Not. But I don't really want to talk about that right now.

I do want to talk about the fact that I've been reading quite a bit recently. Well.. more than usual. Because I have the time.

And I have the Kindle app on my phone, so I download a lot of the "free" books... which is interesting because they aren't always "top of the line" books. The other day I downloaded "Pride & Prejudice - the Wanton & Wild Edition"... basically P&P with sex. Which... is... weird. I got half way through it and haven't kept going. I just can't see that the "co-author" has really added anything of value.

More interestingly, I've been reading Decision Points, by President George W. Bush. Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I voted for Bush. I took the ladies to see him when he was running the 2nd time, and it was quite an experience. But by the end of the 8 years, I'd kind of had enough of him, and was ready for the new blood. I had heard some good things about the book, so I decided to check it out. It's a really good book. Each chapter revolves around a different decision he had to make, and how he went about making the decision. It's a GREAT way to see "behind" the presidency. It reminds me of why I loved The West Wing so much - I think we so often don't realize how much debate and thought goes into a presidential decision. We just see the end result. Reading this book has inspired me to want to read other books (autobiographies and others) written by other presidents. But I gotta finish this one first.

Waiting for me on my Kindle are:
Fat, Forty and Fired - for some reason I can relate.

Admit One: My Life in Film
- it was free... we'll see

And that's all at the moment.....

What do you suggest?

Loved The Help. And My Name is Memory. And right now I'm reading The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint, which is very well-written and unlike any book I've ever read.

Jealous of your leisure time. Not so jealous of the reason BEHIND said leisure time. Praying for the perfectly right job to come along at the perfectly right time.

I'm all about getting the FREE books for my Kindle... but you're right, it's a bit of a crap shoot. It seems as though the free books are either Christian fiction or soft core p0rn... one end of the spectrum to the other!

Well crap. I haven't been keeping up with FB or anything social media related this week, so I didn't know. Do I need to come up there and kick some butt?
Anyway, I don't have a kindle or an app or anything so I don't know about free books, but if you haven't read The Help, you must.
Are you on Goodreads? I post all of my books on there and sometimes rate them if I'm not too lazy, so you can get some suggestions from there.

I LOVED the Help if you want to buy a book. Excellent read.

I am reading decision points now as well. I find it so interesting. I like GWB. Like you, I was done with him toward the end, but I honestly think I'd have been sick of anyone at that point. He's funny and cordial and smart, which is the one adjective that seems to be left out of many reports. I love his insight.

I wish I could lend you my ebooks. But you can download books from your library - ask Christine our favorite resident library girl!!

I have not finished Decision Points yet, but started Atlas Shrugged. Very interesting. Strange, but interesting.

I hate to hear you are having too much time to read your Kindle!

Love the free books! I am constantly browsing that top 100 free book list for new ones that are being snatched up.

One of these days I'll get a FB account. Since you went dormant on the site, I suspected something was up. You've known me forever and you know that reading isn't my thing. You'll find it shocking to know I've actually been reading books. I'm cheap and have been getting books from the library or friends. Try Steig Larsson's books, starting with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Loved his 3 books, intense, mystery, plot twists. Try Janet Evanovich's Plum Series starting with One for the Money. These are easy to read and I was entertained.

I'm totally bummed about your job situation but I just know that something great is going to come along!

Books, hmm. I just finished The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It was good. I can't say that I've read anything recently that I really loved. I'm getting ready to read The Postmistress for my book club. I'll let you know.

you can download the nook app for free as well, and every Friday they have a different book for free. :) If you search on BN.com under the nook book section, and search for $0.00 it will come up with hundreds...and there are 30 Harlequins in there....along with some, well, rather interesting ones. ;)

Still crossing fingers that you get good news from the job you applied for that you really wanted!

I don't have a Kindle, so I'm no help with the free downloads. I just started the Harry Potter series and I have to say that I'm enjoying the books way more than the movies. Oh, and Water for Elephants. That's a good one.
